Received this e-mail today from former President of Planned Parenthood, Cecile Richards, in support of Stacey Abrams’ (D. GA) gubernatorial campaign:
Last May, Stacey Abrams won a decisive victory in her primary election to be Georgia’s next Governor, and she was heading full-speed into the general election. I had just stepped down from twelve years serving as President of Planned Parenthood, but I knew I still had to do everything I could to help ensure she won again in November.
You see, Stacey Abrams is exactly the kind of leader we need right now. She's a fierce advocate for reproductive health and a champion for Georgia's women and families. Her record as Democratic Leader speaks volumes.
Right now, progressive governors in states across the country are the first line of defense against Trump. They're standing up to block attempts to roll back the clock on women's health, to defund Planned Parenthood, and to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Stacey Abrams is ready to fight for Georgia as Governor – in fact, she's already been a leader of that fight in the Georgia House of Representatives. She's fought for the 8,000 Georgians (of all races, socioeconomic backgrounds, and genders) who depend on Planned Parenthood for health care. Why? Because Stacey knows that ensuring access to the full range of reproductive health services is key to ensuring economic mobility for women across the state of Georgia.
I know that as Governor, Stacey Abrams will set a new standard for the South at a time when we need her leadership the most. She's ready for the fight – if we are ready to stand beside her. Please, donate $3 or whatever you can to help Stacey keep fighting.
Fights for progress are never easy. I should know – I led a reproductive health care organization under more than one anti-women's health presidential administration. This work is critical if we’re going to save women’s rights and lives. That’s why I’m proud to be in this fight with Stacey Abrams and proud to be fighting for Stacey Abrams to be the next Governor of Georgia. I hope you’ll fight with me.
