Fox News’s Lou Dobbs may be attacking the CDC because it’s doing CYA with its recent COVID-19 plan being honest about the 18 month estimate of time for the pandemic to run its course.
Trump needs someone to take the blame for his months-long dithering that is keeping the potential death toll high. It may also be that Trump got bored with the plan document’s acronyms. This does help head off the charge that CDC (or Trump) rejected an early offer of WHO test kits.
In the past year, Dobbs has gotten a lot of attention for his effusive, over-the-top praise of the president, including when he said “it will be century after century of veneration for this president” and “he’s already set a standard… for presidents that most mortals won’t be able to meet” and “it is a shame that this country which… is benefitting so much from this president’s leadership does not understand their obligations to the leader who is making it possible for all of us.”
The gun safety bit is weak in terms of trying to test the “liberal” frame.

Or to put in more directly, beliefs that depend upon others’ beliefs can produce herd behaviour and panic – just as it so often does in economic settings ranging from bank runs to panic buying of toilet paper.
