F&M College Poll Has Joe Biden Beating Trump In Pennsylvania 49-42

Here’s the latest news out of Pennsylvania:

Former Vice President Joe Biden continues to lead President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania, according to a new poll being released Thursday, with voters giving the Democratic nominee a seven-point lead.
The Franklin and Marshall College Poll, conducted from Aug. 17 to 23 while the Democratic National Convention was under way, showed Biden ahead of Trump among registered voters by 49% to 42%.

The election continues to be all about Trump. Six in 10 Biden supporters say their vote is more about opposing Trump than supporting Biden. Four in five of the president’s supporters say their vote is about Trump. That’s consistent with findings from a July F&M poll, which showed Biden with a nine-point lead.

G. Terry Madonna, the director of the Franklin & Marshall College Poll, provides more insight:

“The economy is definitely Trump’s strongest suit,” Madonna said. “To put it bluntly, an improvement in the economy and what people think about the economy is critically important to his reelection.”

But overall, there will not be much of a change for Trump’s hopes to win Pennsylvania unless those factors change, Madonna said. Fewer voters are undecided or are considering a third-party candidate than there were in 2016, according to the poll. Madonna attributed the trend partially because to the polarization in America’s politics..

“If [Trump] has a good day, Republicans cheer him and Democrats boo him,” Madonna said. “If he has a bad day, Republicans cheer him and Democrats boo him. … Much depends on COVID-19.”

PoliticsPA breaks down the issues:

48% said that Trump is the most prepared to handle the economy, while 44% said that Biden was the most prepared to handle the economy. Biden holds a slight edge over Trump, 47-to-43, on who will better handle the job of commander in chief of the military and also holds a 4 lead advantage, 45-to-41, on who will change government policies that makes your life better.

Biden opens up double digit leads over Trump in the following six topics.

50% said that Biden is the most prepared to handle foreign policy issues, while 39% sided with Trump on the matter. 49% said that Biden has the best plan to handle the coronavirus, while 30% said that Trump had the best plan to handle the virus.

50% said that Biden best understands the concerns of ordinary Americans, while 38% said that Trump was the best candidate to understand the concerns of ordinary Americans. Just over half, 52%, said that Biden has the character and good judgment needed to be president, while one-third, 33%, selected Trump. 49% said that Biden is the most honest and trustworthy choice for president, while 29% said that Trump is the most honest and trustworthy candidate for president. 47% said that Biden’s views on values issues, such as abortion and gay marriage, are closer to their views, while 37% said that Trump’s views on those two issues are closer to their point of view.

It’s important for Biden to win big in our home state in order to win the election. So let’s make sure the Biden-Harris ticket is ready to go. Click here to donate and get involved with the Biden-Harris campaign.

Sen. Bob Casey, Jr. (D. PA) & Joe Biden

A full century ago, women in our nation finally won the right to vote. Yet women are still underpaid, overworked, underrepresented, and harassed in the workplace. The fight for real equality continues.

Electing and supporting women who step up and run for Congress is essential to closing the wage gap, ending workplace harassment, stopping violence against women, and more.

Thanks to people like you, Susan Wild, Chrissy Houlahan, Mary Gay Scanlon, and Madeleine Dean won a historic number of seats for Pennsylvania women in 2018, and Christina Finello, Sarah Hammond, and Kristy Gnibus are running to nearly double that number this year. This Women's Equality Day, I'm asking you to support all of their campaigns.

Will you help Susan Wild, Chrissy Houlahan, Mary Gay Scanlon, Madeleine Dean, Sarah Hammond, Kristy Gnibus, and Christina Finello win in November and help bring equality to Congress? Chip in $13 now.

Four years ago, on Women's Equality Day, I joined New York Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney to request a report from the Government Accountability Office on the economic challenges that women face.

Two years ago, the GAO released that report, with dozens of pages explaining how women pay more for goods and services while earning less.

There's no excuse for why women still face these challenges — and so many others — in 2020, but to make further progress, it's essential that women have a voice in Congress.

This year, Women's Equality Day is just a few short months away from Election Day, and it's the perfect time to take action to elect more women. Chip in to help Chrissy, Mary, Susan, Madeleine, Kristy, Sarah, and Christina make sure Pennsylvanians can send even more women to Congress this year.

Thank you,

Bob
