Received this e-mail today from Democracy for America:
Witness tampering is a serious offense, but even more so when the act is committed by a sitting member of Congress.
Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz made a direct threat on Twitter to Michael Cohen yesterday — the day before he was scheduled to testify before the House Oversight Committee. And now the Florida Bar Association is investigating him for potential witness tampering.
Matt Gaetz's open attempt to stop Michael Cohen from testifying is a disgusting display of privilege that we have witnessed repeatedly from Congressional and Senate Republicans alike. Just like Donald Trump, Matt Gaetz believes that he is above the law.
Gaetz may have apologized for his behavior. But he still must face the consequences of his actions. An elected official cannot be permitted to threaten a witness and still maintain their standing in Congress.
