As we wrote to you earlier today, “There are several threats to our voting rights including hacking, voter suppression, partisan and race-based disenfranchisement, and undue influence from wealthy special interests.” Mimi Kennedy, award-winning actor, author, and Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) Co-founder is a leading, nationally-recognized election integrity expert and activist. She wrote a Voters’ Self Defense Manual that offers advice and warnings voters need (writen for California voters, but applicable to all—see more info. below). Please pitch in now to help PDA defend your voting rights!

I wrote this Voters’ Self Defense Manual for our state this year. We need it because this year California’s late-counted ballots batches WILL NOT BE AUDITED! The software can be rigged and we’ll never know. With Congressional control at stake, what do you think ruthless operatives will if they do if they won’t be caught?
In the Manual, I explain how to stay out of the unaudited count of late-arrival mail ballots (after Election Day) and provisional ballots. There will be tricks to swell the unaudited batches for hackers to prey on. Hacking can even slow down mail ballots’ issuance and return, or change registration data. They know well how to exploit voters’ confusion. They study the rules and micro-target undesirable voters—like progressives—down to the precinct level, sowing obstacles and confusion.
Click here to check, check, check your registration. Take a screenshot. Complain immediately if you’re not there. Know your status and print out a copy of the applicable rules. Get voters informed! For instance, dropping off a voted mail ballot at the polls this year, previously thought a secure chain of custody, this year gets your vote into the unaudited computer count. There’s no time to process it out of its envelope in time to count it with the precincts that are audited. This is all in the manual.
Our legislators left us vulnerable. They exempted these late ballot batches to please vendors and county registrars, many of whom are openly right-wing partisans. Secretary of State Alex Padilla issued a bulletin warning about election cyber vulnerability but took no action other than to say there must be some action.
Well, I’m taking action. I prepared this manual to tell you how to do YOUR part to avoid falling into a riggable count.
If you want to take further helpful action, donate to PDA. Progressive candidates must win. But they can’t if progressive voters are suppressed—either before they vote (Voter ID laws, felon disenfranchisement, illegal purges, polling place intimidation) or after (rigged, unaudited counts, procedural “mistakes”).
Since PDA formed in 2004, we have led on Election Integrity. We’ve been unafraid to call out “Election Fraud” and refute the right-wing term “Voter Fraud” which arose to drown us out. Voters’ lack of access and the robbery of our votes by computer are the problems to solve for democracy to be restored.
Tom Hayden was surrounded by PDAers at our first conference in D.C. in January, 2005. Answering our questions, he finally said, in wonder, “I know you’re all about ending the war, but I can’t believe how many of you are telling me you think the war happened because of election fraud.” Yes, we did. And we do. We won’t know the good our country is still capable of until our elections are honest.
Let’s show our officials how to take action by educating ourselves to avoid the games they seem to want to deny are being played on us all.

With less than three weeks left before Election Day, we’re working to GOTV (Get Out The Vote) and to protect your voting rights. You can help now! VOLUNTEER by emailing Mike Fox. He’ll get you signed up to contact registered voters in your state; or, if you live in a state with same day voter registration, you can do double duty helping both to register voters and GOTV.
DONATE to support this historic effort. We must make sure that all voters get to the polls and that they’re allowed to vote—not suppressed or disenfranchised. Also, that all our votes are counted as cast—not hacked or discounted through partisan chicanery!

P.S. We’re here to help you make progress in your state and locality! If you need help organizing a new PDA chapter or energizing your existing chapter, please contact PDA Field Coordinator Dan O’Neal. Join the PDA Phone Team making easy, effective calls from your own home with Mike “Phone Guy” Fox. Also please pitch in $1000, $100, or whatever you can afford to elect progressive candidates.
