Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) is leading the fight to cancel student debt. PDA has joined forces in a nationwide campaign with Social Security Works and Freedom to Prosper, calling for the universal eradication of student debt.
Last week Senator Bernie Sanders and Rep. Ilhan Omar introduced legislation to cancel all outstanding student debt; their bills compliment parallel legislation that would make all public state and community colleges tuition free.
If passed, these bills would solve a massive crisis that has been suffocating the American economy and burdening the lives of 45 million working and middle class Americans for the past two decades. Here’s your chance to get involved with this critically important effort!

The national student debt has soared from 90 Billion in 2001 to an astonishing $1.6 trillion (and counting) in 2019, a 17-fold increase. As Rep. Omar explained in a press release:
“There are currently 45 million Americans with student debt,” said Omar. “That’s 45 million people who are being held back from purchasing their first home; 45 million people who may feel that they can’t start a family; 45 million people who have dreams of opening a business or going into public service, but are held back.”
“My bill would end this crisis by cancelling all $1.6 trillion in student loan debt,” said Omar. “This would not only allow Americans struggling with debt pursue their dreams, but would unleash billions of dollars in economic growth—stimulating our entire economy. We can fully fund this with a small tax on Wall Street speculation. The American people bailed out Wall Street. It’s time for Wall Street to bail out American people.”
