Before you take a teaspoon of bleach or ask your doctor for a 5cc shot of Lysol, take a moment. I understand for his supporters that waiting on your signed check from Donald J. Trump, makes you feel as special as Stormy Daniels; however, staring into the sun, or spending hours under a UV lamp will not cure you of the coronavirus. Well, now that I have stepped on the toes of every comic from Stephen Colbert to Tiffany Haddish, I apologize. This is the result of the incessant need of the media to broadcast absurdity for ratings to a sane nation. Lost on America’s citizenry is the real story of institutional incompetence practiced by the administration and the slow dissolution of the experts as they fall one by one.
People like former Homeland Security Adviser Tom Bossert who was shoved out the door by John Bolton called for a vigorous pandemic response. When the Global Health Security office was shut down in 2018, Rear Admiral Timothy Ziemer was reassigned and not heard from since. Politico reported just last month that a 70-page pandemic playbook was prepared for the incoming Trump administration by the outgoing Obama team. The feigned ignorance from Mr. Trump, who almost daily tells the American public that “no one could have seen this coming” is simply untrue. A wave of officials saw it, warned the President, and as a result were either fired or reassigned, for daring to dispute the king.
Dr. Rick Bright, the former head of the Biomedical Advanced Research Development Authority (BARDA) refused to discredit himself and publicly questioned the use of the drug [Hydroxychloroquine] to combat COVID-19. He said this because the drug has been insufficiently researched for the purpose the President has touted. Dr. Bright is not some schlemiel with a mail-order degree. He is one of the most famous and widely respected people in his field and has been a part of the administration since 2016. Yet the man who swore an oath to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution…” claimed not to know one of his chief lieutenants in his self-proclaimed war. When the President was asked about one of the key figures central to his COVID-19 strategy and his resignation/dismissal, Mr. Trump answered, “I’ve never heard of him. When did this happen?” he continued ”I never heard of him. “Guy says he was pushed out of a job; maybe he was, maybe he wasn’t.”
The self-absorption in a statement like that, when at the time over 40,000 people had died, is stunning. I complain constantly about the normalization of this president. He says former President Obama gave him a broken test for a disease that did not exist. He ignores simple statistical math by only talking about the numbers of the test without talking about the per capita rates. Percentages are useless without numbers and numbers are useless without percentages. Trump has now reached a stage of what could charitably be called lunacy, posturing the injecting of disinfectants. This man is not normal, or smart or a stable genius… Have two-fingers of bleach on me, cheers.
