Received this e-mail today from Governor Jared Polis’ (D. CO) re-election campaign:
Almost 70% of Colorado’s most vulnerable population, those aged 60 and older, are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19. That’s fantastic news, but now that we’ve protected so many of our most vulnerable, our focus moves to protecting everyone — so that we can finally put this pandemic behind us. COVID-19 can be deadly to people of all ages.
The COVID-19 vaccine is available to all Coloradans ages 16 and up. If you or someone you love has not yet received their shot, here are four reasons to sign up now:
1) New data confirms what countless studies have already shown: These vaccines are extremely effective at protecting people against the coronavirus. In Colorado we’re seeing a 93-95% reduction in reported positive cases of COVID-19 among vaccinated people compared to non-vaccinated. That is outstanding, and in line with the most effective vaccines in existence, such as the measles vaccine.
2) We are seeing an increase in Coloradans in their 20s, 30s, and 40s being hospitalized after becoming seriously ill from COVID-19. No matter your age or health status, Sam, this vaccine could save your life — and it could also save the lives of your loved ones by making it so you don’t transmit a deadly disease to them.
3) It’s easier than ever to schedule an appointment near you. Many providers have same-day appointments, and there are now drive-up and walk-up clinics available where an appointment isn’t even needed. Find a provider close to you at COCOVIDVACCINE.org or by calling 1-877-CO VAX CO (1-877-268-2926).
4) We are seeing concerning COVID-19 case trends in parts of our state where fewer folks are taking advantage of the vaccine. In particular, cases are spreading faster right now in Southern Colorado than in other areas. If you live in Southern Colorado and have not yet received your vaccine, there are many appointments available. You can sign up to make an appointment at a community drive-up site today :
The bottom line is that getting the vaccine is our path out of this pandemic. It’s our path back to normal — and the quicker we all get vaccinated, the quicker we’ll get there.
