A newly released Poll by CNN shows Joe Biden leading Trump 57% to 41% among likely voters nationally. The poll was taken October first through the fourth. The last head to head survey by CNN/SSRS was taken August 28 through September 1 and had Biden leading 51% to 43%.
It is important to note that these increases in support for Biden have not come alongside substantial decreases in backing for Trump. The President's core supporters remain as supportive of him as they have been, if not more. Among white men without college degrees, for example, Trump's support has increased from 61% in September to 67% now. But Trump does not appear to have made any gains among the groups his campaign needs to attract in order to dent Biden's longstanding lead.
Things have only gotten worse for Trump since. There was his four day visit to Walter Reed Hospital after he tested positive for Covid-19, the chaotic administration response, and Trump’s return to the White House showing little regard for those he might infect and no empathy for those who have suffered and died during the pandemic.
The CNN Poll is rated at B/C by 538 and has a margin of error of 3.6%.
