I received this e-mail today in support of Ammar Campa-Najjar’s (D. CA-50) campaign:
One of our earliest 2020 endorsements was Ammar Campa-Najjar, the young progressive champion who took on corrupt Republican Representative Duncan Hunter in 2018 and just narrowly lost in one of California’s most competitive swing districts.
Now, he’s going up against Hunter — who’s been formally charged with campaign finance fraud — again, along with…
It’s true: the former Republican Congressman from California’s 49th District (which DFA-endorsed progressive Mike Levin successfully flipped in 2018) has decided to come out of retirement and run in CA-50, a completely different district where he doesn’t even live.
You might remember Issa from this viral moment, in which he was so desperate to avoid speaking with his constituents that he fled to the rooftop of his district office:
Issa isn’t the only Republican competing in the GOP primary for this seat, proving that Republicans are desperate to find a strong, viable candidate to run against Ammar, who we all know is a fearless progressive with the grassroots behind him. Ammar said it best:
“Right now, we have a Congressman facing criminal trial who is completely unfit to serve, so a bunch of other politicians — including those who don’t even live here — see an opportunity to advance their own careers.”
Ammar — who proudly supports Medicare for All, sensible gun reform, debt-free college, and more — is clearly the best and right choice to represent the people of California’s 50th District. We saw how competitive the race was in 2018, but with enough support from the grassroots and DFA members like you, we can put him over the top and send him to Congress where he belongs.
With your help, we can finally flip this House seat from red to blue and send a new, bold progressive to advance our movement in Washington.
