Received this e-mail today from Rep. Conor Lamb (D. PA-17) in support of Mark Kelly’s (D. AZ) U.S. Senate campaign:
Captain Mark Kelly is a fellow veteran, a retired engineer and NASA astronaut, and now a candidate for U.S. Senate in Arizona in what is going to be one of the most closely watched 2020 races in the country.
After Congresswoman Gabby Giffords was nearly killed in a 2011 shooting, Mark and his wife Gabby turned the attack into a life-saving call to action. Together, they co-founded the organization GIFFORDS to unite Americans from both parties to reduce gun violence and make our communities safer.
When Mark came to Pennsylvania last year to attend a gun safety panel with me in Heidelberg during his Giffords & VoteVets Tour, it was clear that he’s the kind of leader we need to bring people together and get things done. And I know that’s exactly what he’ll do in the Senate.
This year in the House of Representatives, we have already passed bipartisan legislation to improve and expand background checks and prevent criminals from buying guns. But even this kind of common-sense reform that an overwhelming majority of Americans support is being opposed by the special interests, and has been blocked by Mitch McConnell in the Senate.
But if we elect leaders like Mark to the Senate in 2020, we can break through the gridlock and pass the common-sense, bipartisan laws we need to prevent gun violence.
Like me, Mark Kelly refuses money from Corporate PACs. In the U.S. Senate, he will be committed to working for the people of his state, not the special interests. But he needs our help to win, so chip in $5 or more today.
Thanks as always,
