AZ-Sen: Raw Story, “GOPer ridiculed for groveling to Trump on Twitter for receiving ventilators”

Kudos to Matthew Chapman at Raw Story for catching this:

On Friday, Sen. Martha McSally (R-AZ), a vulnerable senator facing re-election in November, posted a tweet lavishing President Donald Trump with praise for shipping ventilators to Arizona from the Strategic National Stockpile:

Commenters on social media mocked her display as inappropriate — and speculated that Trump may be doing this as a favor to her re-election.

While McSally has spent her time kissing up to Trump and blaming China, Mark Kelly (D. AZ) has been calling for real solutions:

Kelly said the pandemic is a global problem that won’t be solved by blaming foreign powers. “I think it’s important for all us to realize this is a worldwide crisis and a pandemic, and the best thing we can do right now is marshal all the resources we have and fight this thing as a team,” Kelly said in a recent interview.

President Donald Trump has not used the Defense Production Act as effectively as he could, Kelly said. The federal government, he said, should not only instruct companies to build ventilators and personal protective equipment, but also sign contracts promising to purchase the equipment that’s built. The government response got started too late, he said. “I just feel we haven’t done enough to try and stay ahead of this – to think, ‘What’s it going to be like two weeks, three weeks from now?’ And prepare for that today. We’re just not seeing that.”

Arizona had requested 5,000 ventilators from the federal government, nearly doubling the number available in the state. But with a national shortage, along with new, less-dire projections, state officials dialed back their request to just 500 ventilators.
