AZ-Sen: PCCC Mounts Pressure On Jeff Flake (R) To Reject Brett Kavanaugh's SCOTUS Nomination

Received this e-mail today from the Progressive Change Campaign Committee:

This morning, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford described herself as “terrified” as she testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee, including an all-male set of Republicans who simultaneously hid behind and towered over a female prosecutor they appointed to do the questioning.

This was hard for many women and survivors of sexual assault. One TV commentator said “half of America is crying” as they watch.

Dr. Ford testified that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh attempted to rape her as Kavanaugh's friend Mark Judge witnessed. She said her most vivid memory was “the laughter, the uproarious laughter between the two, and their having fun at my expense.”

In recent days, numerous Republican senators put distance between themselves and Brett Kavanaugh. Now, especially after seeing today's testimony, they need to go further and say they believe Dr. Ford and oppose Kavanaugh.

We're asking hundreds of thousands of PCCC members in states with Republican senators to call those senators right now. If you're outraged that someone like Brett Kavanaugh still could be confirmed to the Supreme Court, please help ramp up the pressure on swing-vote Senator Jeff Flake from Arizona by chipping in $3 to run this newspaper ad in his home-state papers.

Senator Flake is a Republican who called for Dr. Ford to be heard — and as a retiring senator, he's opposed Trump in the past. With a 1-vote Republican majority in the Judiciary Committee, his opposition could stop a sexual predator from advancing with approval to the full Senate.

Our new ad makes clear Dr. Ford is not alone. Many survivors of Kavanaugh's assaults have now stepped forward.

Senate Republicans have refused to allow the testimony of any other survivors or witnesses who could corroborate Dr. Ford's testimony. They have also refused to allow the FBI to investigate.

Our friend, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, said today, “The very bare minimum that a person who comes forward is owed is a sincere and thorough investigation.” He vowed, “I will make a personal pledge to you here that however long it takes — in whatever forum I can do it — whenever possible…I will do whatever's in my power to make sure your claims get a full and proper investigation and not just this.”

That's a reminder of why we need to take back Congress this year. But first, we need to defeat Kavanaugh now by ramping up pressure on Republicans who hold the majority.

Please join thousands of PCCC members in ramping up pressure on Senator Jeff Flake, a key swing vote, by chipping in to run our new ad in his home-state papers.
