I never cared for Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard. I didn’t like her buddying up to Bashar-al-Assad. And her early work against the LGBTQ community doesn’t give the warm fuzzies either. But she has come out against impeachment of Trump because it would cause further division in the U.S.
“I don’t [support impeachment,]” Gabbard said. “You know, I think it’s important for us to think about what is in the best interest of the country and the American people, and continuing to pursue impeachment is something that I think will only further to tear our country apart.”
Where to begin?
Anyone think that the country isn’t already torn apart? How many stories have been written by many on Daily Kos about relatives and friends who support Trump no matter what he does? I’ve lost count. Anyone have a lot of luck convincing their Trump loving relatives and friends to listen to any reasons or logic or facts to see that Trump is unfit for office? I know mine will vote for Trump next year no matter what happens.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I have no intention of going along with my Trump supporting relatives or friends. Therefore, by definition, there is already division. And it is not going to improve if there is no impeachment.
But according to Gabbard, holding Trump accountable for his actions with impeachment will make things worse. Is there going to be a big swing in support to Trump? I don’t think so. Look at Trump’s approval ratings. The man has never gotten above 50%. Trump stays within a certain range of midthirties to midforties.
Will impeachment make Trump a sympathetic victim? Trump has been playing the victim for YEARS now. It’s part of the rightwing schtick. Can he be a bigger victim? I suppose that is possible, but it is only a matter of a few degrees IMHO.
What I think is happening is that Gabbard can’t be bothered with doing her constitutional duty. There is already evidence of Trump’s committing high crime and misdemeanors: the Mueller Report. It’s all there in the report. Trump obstructed justice.
And that is only the tip of the iceberg.
How many other crimes is Trump in the process of committing? Who knows. Trump is fighting every congressional subpoena. The subpoenas are all tide up in court, and who the hell knows when the courts may get around to ruling in Congress’ favor.
Meanwhile, Trump is getting away with his crimes. And it is only encouraging him to commit more crimes. Look at how Trump is now openly lining his pockets with directing the Air Force to have stopovers at his resort in Scotland. By the way, it is now being reported that this is not some once on event. It appears that Trump is making the Air Force sign a refueling contract for Prestwick Airport up to 2024. And Mike Pence had to stay at a Trump resort during his visit to Ireland. All at taxpayer expense. And let’s not forget about Trump wanting the next G7 meeting at Doral.
And those are just the financial crimes. What about those kids in cages?
For those who oppose impeachment, let me ask you this question: how will Trump be over a year from now if he goes without any accountability?
Not impeaching Trump is saying to the public, “Ain’t no big deal if the president commits crimes.” It’s all good. Everything is normal.
I thank the powers that be that Gabbard will not be on the next debate stage. With Democrats like her, who needs Republicans?
