Another kid dies in custody. This will end badly for you, and 'following orders' won't cut it
Under Trump, we went from a few dozen in shelters to 14,300 toddlers, children and teens being packed in detention centers. The centers are so horrifying that public officials aren’t allowed to see their conditions. Migrant children are still being abused, assaulted, and molested; the “lucky” ones are just abandoned en masse at bus stations.
It was only a few months ago that Kirstjen Nielsen made a desperate bid to please Trump so she wouldn’t fired for her stunning incompetence. She enthusiastically oversaw a vicious policy of forcibly separating small children from their parents and locking them in cages for the “crime” of seeking asylum. She fiercely defended purposefully inflicting trauma on the children all the way to the end—when she was caught off-guard by Trump’s backtrack after the public revolted.
Then, on Dec. 8, 7-year-old Jackeline Caal Maquin died in ICE custody because she wasn’t given water. You’d think that Nielsen would have at least done something to ensure that doesn’t happen again.
An 8-year-old Guatemalan boy died late Christmas Eve in the custody of US Customs and Border Protection, the agency said, the second Guatemalan child to die in the agency's custody this month.
His name was Felipe Alonzo-Gomez.
Nancy Pelosi wasted no time, and announced that the children’s deaths will be investigated.
House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer agreed.
The walls are caving in around Trump. He’s polling at 38%, and that will be a record high after a month of his shutdown. People are jumping ship all around him, and his longtime corporate backers are up in arms over his phony trade war. Stocks are falling, and we are headed for a dismal recession.
I don’t know at this point what his future holds, but it won’t be pretty. He will either leave office, humiliated after being voted out in 2020, which is his best option, or leave sooner once the Mueller report showcases his treason. Either way, it’s ending. I am hopeful, but doubtful, that he will end up in prison as he justly deserves.
For people kowtowing under him, they won’t be as lucky.
I have little doubt that the House investigations will uncover many ugly truths. In 2020, when the Democrats fully take over, we’ll learn even more. If so many petty, despicable creatures are doing this many ugly things in the open, just imagine what is going on behind the scenes. There will be prosecutions, and those hoping for some sort of Republican cover will find out just how quickly they forget you when you are out of power.
And we won’t stop at the people at the top.
From vindictive ICE agents who torment migrants, to government officials who illegally seize passports and then try to deport them, none of these rat bastards will be able to say “I was just following orders” as an excuse. You did this. You will be held accountable. Our nightmare will be over when Trump leaves, but yours will just be starting.
If you think I’m overreacting, just remember: even our enemies in wartime were given water. You dumped out water that a small migrant girl needed, just so she would die of dehydration. Damn right we’re angry.
And we won’t ever forget.
