Received two e-mails in support of U.S. Senator Doug Jones’ (D. AL) re-election bid. First, from U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D. RI):
This is important: My friend and colleague Doug Jones is up for reelection in 2020, and a far-right challenger just jumped into the race against him.
The U.S. Senate does not need another divisive, extremist voice, yet that’s precisely what Doug’s new opponent would be. No matter what happens between now and Election Day, Alabama will be a challenging state for Democrats to win, and we know that Republicans will be doing everything they possibly can to defeat Doug.
This is going to be one of the hardest-fought races in the country, and Democrats must win in Alabama if we’re going to take back the Senate. Today, I’m asking this team to raise $15,000 to reelect Doug Jones and keep Alabama’s Senate seat blue.
Doug and I were U.S. attorneys together, and I’ve always admired his efforts to reopen cold civil rights cases. He even took on the KKK, successfully prosecuting two former members who were behind the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham.
In the Senate, Doug has shown he’s a man of character and integrity, working tirelessly to ensure more Americans have access to health care, especially those living in rural communities. He’s also helped protect American farmers and jobs against Trump’s tariffs.
Replacing Doug’s leadership in the Senate with a rubber stamp for Donald Trump would be a huge setback for our country. We can’t let that happen.
If Democrats are going to take back the Senate majority in 2020, we’ve got to help Doug Jones win in Alabama. Let’s send $15,000 his way today and help him fend off this far-right challenger: Click here to give $5 or more to reelect Doug Jones, protect Alabama’s Senate seat for Democrats and defeat the Trump agenda.
Thanks for supporting Democrats everywhere, Bill.
The second from U.S. Senator Tim Kaine (D. VA):
In 2017, we worked so hard together to help get my friend Doug Jones to the Senate. Every day since that incredible election, Doug has shown us why fighting for him was the right thing to do. He's worked tirelessly to represent the people of Alabama who voted him into office, and he's stood with Democrats on critical votes when we needed him most.
Now, Doug's first 2020 opponent has announced his run for the Senate. Will you step up today and show Doug that you still have his back?
The fact is, a lot of Republicans are going to try their hands at defeating strong Democrats like Doug Jones in 2020. And achieving a Democratic majority in the Senate starts with holding on to the seats we've got. Last year, Doug was there when I needed him. Now it's our turn to help.
Whether we're protecting farmers against dangerous tariffs or building health care infrastructure in rural communities, I need Doug by my side in the Senate to help folks in Alabama, Virginia, and across the country. Click here to say you'll help keep him there.
The road to 51 Democratic Senate seats runs through Alabama, and it starts right now.
