Received this e-mail from U.S. Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D. IL) in support of U.S. Senators Doug Jones (D. AL), Gary Peters (D. MI) and Tina Smith’s (D. MN) re-election campaigns:
Recently, we’ve told you about some exciting candidates who are running to turn red Senate seats blue and build a new Democratic majority. But we haven’t forgotten about the most vulnerable Democratic Senators whom the GOP is targeting for defeat in the 2020 election.
It is absolutely crucial that we defend Doug Jones in Alabama, Gary Peters in Michigan, and Tina Smith in Minnesota. These Democrats are fighting to protect the American people during this pandemic — and to move our country forward. We need to have their backs in this fight.
Let’s be realistic here. We can win the Senate, but we’re facing an uphill fight. Yes, we only need to flip four GOP-held seats from red to blue. But that math only holds up if we successfully defend every Democratic Senator who is up for re-election this year. We can’t lose a single seat.
We’re asking for you to help these Democrats because — just like Dick Durbin — they’ve been forced to suspend in-person campaign events for the indefinite future due to coronavirus. These campaigns are in urgent need of our online, grassroots support.
