A white Mississippi elections official is 'concerned' with 'the blacks' and their voter drives

Jones County Election Commissioner Gail Harrison Welch posted this nugget on her Facebook. Her defense is that she thought it was a private message

I’m a Election Commissioner in Jones County. I’m concerned about voter registration in Mississippi. The blacks are having lots events for voter registration. People in Mississippi have to get involved too. Thank you fir all you do.

She also said she didn’t understand why people were so upset with her.  She said she was trying to “strike a match” to get white people involved to counter “the blacks.”

It’s also telling that she referred to African American citizens in her county as “the blacks”, but Caucasians were the “people in Mississippi”.  Black lives not only don’t matter to her, they aren’t even people.
