I never wanted to be part of the “grammar police,” but there’s only so much pain I can stand. Even in this age of autocorrect (which often produces hilarious results) , there really is something wrong about being careless with basic language.
So I am taking a stand on the correct use of “its” and “it’s.” The first one is a possessive pronoun, like “his” and “her.” The second is a contraction of “it is.”We’re not supposed to use a verb when we mean a pronoun. We don’t write “its simple” (not yet, anyway); why do we write “he followed it’s rule” ???

I’ve been Dan K for a long time here, but I went away while I was in the Peace Corps (Kenya) and then while I was working as a Foreign Service Officer. But that’s all behind me now.
