82% of Senior Americans Are Now Vaccinated, 302 Million Doses Have Been Delivered in US

Americans over the age of 65 have embraced Covid vaccination to the extent that 82% have received at least one dose and 68.3% are fully vaccinated, according to the numbers released by the CDC for yesterday, and the percentages are still slowly rising.

In fact, if you look at the numbers for US residents between the ages of 65 to 75, the percentage who have received at least one arm stick is 83.2%, leaving only 16.8% still unvaccinated. Just 81% of Americans over 75% have been injected but, they are at an age where they are less able to make appointments or transport themselves.

Looking at the total US population, 43% have received at least one dose. The rate of vaccinations has slowed over the last couple of weeks as the supply of people most eager for jabs is running low. Still, 54.5% of adults have received an injection. The average rate of vaccinations has been 2.67 million for the last week.

The three companies that have approved vaccines in the US have delivered a total of 301.9  million doses between December 14 and April 27.

The White House is considering options for maximizing global production and supply of COVID-19 vaccines at the lowest cost, including backing a proposed waiver of intellectual property rights, but no decision has been made, press secretary Jen Psaki said on Tuesday.

“There are a lot of different ways to do that. Right now, that's one of the ways, but we have to assess what makes the most sense,” Psaki said, adding that U.S. officials were studying whether it would be more effective to boost existing manufacturing of the vaccines in the United States.
