77% of US Senior Citizens Are Vaccinated; Some States Are Running Short on Recipients

The Center for Disease Control reports 76.9% of all Americans over the age of 65 have received at least one shot of Covid-19 vaccine as of yesterday. Some 33.7% of the entire US population has also received one or two doses. The percentage of adult US residents who have been injected at least once is 43.2%.
The number of jabs was about 3.4 million yesterday and is averaging just over 3 million a day. However, some states are starting to find a shortage of people signing up for vaccinations.
Gov. Beshear begs Kentuckians to get COVID-19 vaccine as 42% of doses go unused last week
More than 1,510,000 Kentuckians have gotten at least their first dose — 125,510 of whom got their first shot last week. The state has the capacity to vaccinate more than 200,000 people a week, which is achievable, since “our overall [weekly] allocation is getting bigger,” Beshear said.
But demand hasn’t quite met the increasing supply yet, Beshear said. “While we vaccinated 125,510 new Kentuckians, we received about 214,000 new doses,” which means tens of thousands of doses were not immediately claimed. The state expects to receive 278,810 new doses this week.
Demand for COVID-19 vaccine decreases in Arkansas
FORT SMITH, Ark. —
Pharmacists in the River Valley have seen a sharp decrease in demand for the COVID-19 vaccine.
That is according to pharmacist Daniel Lunsford with Prince Drug Store in Fort Smith.
“We just haven’t had near the demand that we’ve had previously,” Lunsford said.
Oklahoma opens COVID-19 vaccinations to all states
Now, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Oklahoma has received more than 2.9 million vaccine doses and administered more than 2.1 million vaccinations. So, residents of any state will become eligible for vaccination in Oklahoma starting Thursday.
“While our focus has been and will continue to be on vaccinating Oklahomans, we have always known there would be a point at which supply and increasing capacity would allow us to welcome residents from neighboring states into Oklahoma to get vaccinated,” Reed said. “We are now reaching that point.”
