60% of Seniors Now Vaccinated, 123 Million Doses Have Been Delivered in US

The Center for Disease Control reports that 60.1% of US residents over the age of 65 years have been vaccinated with at least one shot of Covid vaccine as of yesterday. It also reports that the three vaccine manufacturers, Moderna, Pfizer/BioNTech, and Johnson and Johnson, have delivered a total over 123 million doses of the vaccines since they were given emergency approval.

This number of shots will be more than enough to fulfill Joe Biden’s original goal of administering 100 million shots in his first 100 days. His goal required 120 million doses available or already used since 19.9 million jabs somehow took place before Biden’s Inauguration Day.

The amounts were bolstered by 3.3 million delivered of the recently approved J&J vaccine. The CDC reports 308 thousand of those shots have already been used.

There is a long way to go, but we seem to have the vaccines in place or coming in the next three months to send Covid packing.

One thing experts agree on, though, is that the available vaccines have outperformed expectations — even when it comes to what are known as the “variants of concern.”

“This virus is not invincible, and despite all these variants, the vaccines are working great,” said Jeremy Kamil, an associate professor of microbiology and immunology at Louisiana State University Health Shreveport. “That is really outstanding and people should be celebrating that.”

Vaccinations at Dollar General Stores?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is in talks with Dollar General, CDC director Rochelle Walensky said Tuesday.

Dollar General does not have pharmacies, but it has more than 16,000 locations. That’s about three times the number of locations as Walmart and more than half as many as CVS and Walgreens, all three of which are delivering COVID-19 vaccines at some of their pharmacy locations.
