23.5% of Adult Americans Have Been Vaccinated

The Center for Disease Control reports that more than 60 million Americans have received at least one shot of Covid vaccine which equals 18.1% of the total population and 23.5% of those old enough to receive the doses.

More than 92 million shots have been administered altogether. The three drug manufactures have delivered 116 million doses of approved  vaccines since December 14.

Joe Biden promised 100 million vaccinations in his first 100 days and we are close now to having enough doses. About 19.9 million doses were given before he took the oath of office so we are less than 4 million doses short of the 120 million that is needed to accomplish the goal. That number likely we be reached before 60 days.

But the first 100 million vaccinations are just a beginning. Today there is still more than 81% of the population that are not vaccinated… and there is the rest of the world.

New Website Offers Anyone a Chance at Left Over Doses

www.msn.com/…

The new vaccine-leftovers website has an easy name to remember and a couple new twists; it matches up vaccine availability to vaccine seekers, but only if both are in the same community.

Of course a bit of a snag exists, but it can be unsnagged with a little help from all hopeful recipients.

The Extra Vaccine Notifier ’s model is based on healthcare providers who inform their communities when they have extra shots. Vaccine eligibility is not based on age, but on geographic location.

According to the Vaccine Notifier’s press release, the whole point of the site is to use every vaccine out there.

Russians Spreading Disinformation

The State Department’s Global Engagement Center, which monitors foreign disinformation efforts, told the newspaper that four websites it claims are associated with Russian intelligence have been publishing articles questioning the efficacy of the vaccines and raising questions about their side effects.

The websites accentuate actual international news reports that cast a negative view of the vaccines without providing contradictory information about their safety and efficacy, the newspaper reported.

Why Are Covid Deaths Less Common in India and Africa?

A New York Times story explores why death rates from Covid-19 are  lower in parts of Africa and Asia than in wealthier countries. Are Covid deaths being underreported? Is there an environmental factor? Is it due the demographic/age structure? Genetics? Healthier lifestyles?

www.nytimes.com/…

Similarly, a team of Indian researchers have argued that deaths “are lower in countries which have a higher population exposed to a diverse range of microbes,” as the BBC’s Soutik Biswas wrote. The large share of asymptomatic infections in India is consistent with this hypothesis, Dr. Gagandeep Kang, a virologist in the southern city of Vellore, told The Financial Times.

If the hypothesis is correct, it could help explain why deaths are lower in Africa and Asia than in much of Latin America.

While it is fortunate that few are dying in these parts of the world, this could have unfortunate consequences if these nations decide vaccination campaigns are not worth the trouble compared to other problems. Unvaccinated populations could serve as reservoirs for the pandemic to repeatedly mutate.
