AL-Sen: Democrats Show What Real Party Unity Looks Like By Helping Doug Jones (D) Win Re-Election

If you’re like me, you probably have received several e-mails from congressional Democrats and progressive groups united in support of U.S. Senator Doug Jones’ (D. AL) re-election campaign and for his courageous vote to convict Donald Trump. To me, it’s a huge sign of First off, VoteVets:

BIRMINGHAM, AL - DECEMBER 10: Democratic Senatorial candidate Doug Jones leaves after a campaign stop at a Jones for Senate field office on December 10, 2017 in Birmingham, Alabama. Yesterday was a somber and historic day, in the worst possible sense. We saw partisan politics eclipse our elected officials’ responsibility to uphold their oaths and the Constitution, and on party lines, the Senate voted to acquit Donald Trump.

But one Democratic Senator stood out as a prime example of doing what is right, not what is easy — Senator Doug Jones from Alabama. Despite being in a “red” state, despite the fact that he’s up for re-election in November, he voted to convict.

As you know, VoteVets is one of the biggest outside spending groups fighting to flip the Senate this November. We’re reaching out today because he needs our help.

Senator Jones is in one of the most competitive races this entire cycle, and right now he needs our help to fight back against opponents attacking him for simply doing the right thing.

Split a donation between Senator Doug Jones and VoteVets.org right now to fuel our work to flip the Senate come this November and support Senator Jones’ re-election. Every dollar will go towards removing Mitch McConnell, Donald Trump, and far-right Republicans for good.

Senator Jones took a political risk by doing the right thing and has honorably served his country with integrity for decades.

If we want to take back the Senate, send Mitch McConnell and his cadre of partisan hacks packing, and make sure Donald Trump is a one-term Commander-in-chief, we need all the support we can get today.

Thanks for your help.

I’ll get right to it:

My friend, Senator Doug Jones, just voted to convict President Trump in the impeachment trial.

I’m personally emailing to see if you will split a donation between his and my campaign before midnight so he can fend off Republicans’ extreme backlash. >>

I knew I’d face attacks when I voted to impeach the president.

Senator Jones knew that, too.

He cast his vote, like I did, because it was the right thing to do.

And he’s already facing a barrage of Republican-funded attacks because of it.

That’s why I’m personally reaching out today and asking you to split a donation between my friend Doug Jones and me before midnight. He needs our help more than ever, and I know he can count on you. >>

I promised we’d get 500 grassroots donations to defend him and his vote before midnight.

Can I count on you right now to help my friend Senator Jones after his historic stand?

Thanks,
Ruben

Friend,
Today, I voted to remove the President of the United States from office. My good friend and colleague, Alabama Senator Doug Jones, did too.
Doug and I have a special bond: we were the only two Senators sworn in together in early 2018. I relied on Doug's experience as a lawyer, his advice, and his counsel throughout this process as we all worked through the legal and ethical issues of this case. Throughout the trial, we both took our oaths to carry out impartial justice seriously.
This was a difficult decision for many of us, but given that Doug represents a state that Trump won by nearly 30 points, his vote took an exceptional amount of courage.
This trial was not just about whether President Trump extorted our allies for personal political gains and then attempted to cover it up — though it's clear that he did. It was also about whether the American people can hold their leaders accountable and defend our right to free and fair elections.
It was about the type of country we want to be, and whether or not we have the courage to fight for it.
Doug, myself, and my other Democratic colleagues proved that we do. I know you do, too. That's why I'm turning to you for help today:
When the President solicits foreign nations to influence our elections with disinformation and prevents the public from hearing a full and fair account of that effort, we cannot afford to turn a blind eye.
Our duty to defend the Constitution of the United States requires action.
The truth is, I see more signs of common ground, hope, and determination in all of us than I do the fractures of division, distrust, and partisanship. This process may have let us down. But we must continue to hold onto the values inside each and every one of us that drives us to find common good within our communities, to organize on the issues that matter most, and to hold our elected leaders accountable. That matters.
Thank you for everything you have done, and will do.
Yours,
— Tina

Yesterday, the majority of the U.S. Senate voted to acquit President Donald Trump, but many, including Senator Doug Jones from Alabama, had the courage to stand up for what they believed was right.

Despite representing what some consider to be a “red” state here in the South, Doug upheld his oath and defended the Constitution by listening to the facts, doing impartial justice, and defending our Constitution. That takes courage.

But because Doug is up for re-election this November, he’s already being relentlessly attacked by the GOP machine for standing on the right side of history. Far-right groups have already spent at least half a million dollars attacking him on impeachment — and that was before his vote!

We need your help in this critical moment if we’re going to keep courageous leaders like Doug in office and remove those, like Cindy Hyde-Smith, who put party before country.

Will you split a contribution of $10 or more to mine and Doug’s campaigns today to support us in the next nine months leading up to Election Day?

Next year, I hope to stand side-by-side with Doug and fight for the people of Alabama and Mississippi in the U.S. Senate.

Thanks,

Mike

Fear of political consequences should never supersede our concern for our country. And while too many Senate Republicans chose fear for their political futures over their country's best interests and voted to acquit President Trump of the impeachment charges, my friend Doug Jones did not.

Now Doug Jones is not a Republican, but there’s no doubt Alabama is a red state, which is why he is one of the most vulnerable Senate Democrats up for re-election this year.

That’s why I’m asking for your help, sam. Doug believes in our nation and our Constitution — and that’s exactly the kind of person Alabama deserves to have representing them in the U.S. Senate. Will you stand with Doug and chip in $8 right now?

Despite this, Doug followed his conscience and he voted to convict President Trump on both articles. In doing so he unleashed the floodgates of negative ads and megadonors who will spend millions of dollars now through election day to take his seat and replace him with an extreme Republican like Jeff Sessions, President Trump’s former Attorney General.

We need to keep courageous people like Doug in the Senate who will put their constituents and our nation first and who will fight for what’s right — defending our health care, civil rights, and equality.

Doug won in 2017 because he has the courage to do what's right, and he'll win again this year because we've got his back.

Join me to stand with Doug so he can keep fighting for what’s right for the country, contribute $8 now.

Thank you,

Patty

Yesterday's impeachment vote will go down in history as a turning-point for America's democracy.

History will not look back kindly on those of my colleagues in the Senate who voted for a political outcome instead of a just one. But here's what I know: history will also look back at Doug Jones for his courageous vote to hold Donald Trump accountable.

Doug has shown time and time again that his top priority is fighting for American families and upholding the Constitution, that has often meant putting aside personal consequences in order to do the right thing.

He has demonstrated that again with his vote to hold Donald Trump accountable for abusing the office of the presidency, and that's exactly why we need to help him get reelected to the Senate this November.

But Doug needs our help. Donate now to make sure Alabama and the American people have Doug in their corner fighting for the next 6 years.

In a time of great divisiveness, Doug is a unifier. Someone willing to put partisan politics aside in order to get the best outcome possible for working families. I know that he will continue to do great things for the American people.

Rep. Barbara Lee (D. CA-13):

Yesterday, while Senate Republicans were proving that they’re too weak to stand up for what’s right, Alabama Senator Doug Jones did the right thing and voted to convict the president of impeachment.

From the start, Senate Republicans were ramming through a sham of an impeachment trial. They blocked witnesses. They blocked evidence. They denied the American people the truth.

Despite being from a state Trump won by nearly 30 points, Doug stood up for what’s right — even though it could cost him his job. That’s courage.

Special interests have already dumped half a million dollars into attacking Doug (and that was just last week!). Now that he voted to convict the president, the far-right will do anything it takes to tear him down.

Doug had the moral courage to do the right thing and now he needs our help. Will you donate $10 or more between our campaigns to ensure Doug has the resources to fight back against the attacks and win re-election in November?

The only way we can stop Trump and the GOP’s dangerous agenda is by making sure people like Doug are re-elected and that Democrats take back the majority this November.

In solidarity,

Barbara Lee

U.S. Senator Mark Warner (D. VA):

For me and many of my colleagues, yesterday's vote to convict the President in the impeachment trial was one of the toughest moments of our careers. But no one faced a harder vote than my friend Doug Jones of Alabama.

Voting your conscience as a Democrat from a state that Donald Trump won by 27 points takes tremendous courage, and I want to personally ask you to join me in showing Doug Jones we've got his back as he heads into a tough re-election fight this year.

Doug Jones is already facing a tidal wave of attacks from the Trump GOP over his principled vote. And if we're going to win back the Senate, we need to hold Doug's Senate seat and also win in Virginia. Will you make a contribution today to help Doug Jones and I win this November?

The fact is every Senator with a competitive 2020 race is taking flak from the President's allies for our vote to convict Donald Trump. My potential Republican opponents are raising money off it, and so are Doug's. But boy oh boy, is he facing some opponents that we can't afford to have in the Senate. Whether it's Roy Moore, who Doug beat last time around, or former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, one of the architects of the Trump family separation policy — they're coming after Doug for this vote. That's where we come in. Doug Jones won Alabama and he can win it again, but not without our help.

The Senate majority and so much more is on the line this election. Please, if you care about electing Democrats who will fight for what's right for our country — not what's right for this President — make a contribution today to help Doug and I keep up the fight in the Senate.

Thank you for your support.

Folks,

Yesterday, Republicans like my opponent, Cory Gardner, voted to acquit the president and showed the American people that they would rather protect Donald Trump than get the truth.

Before I go any further, I want you to know: I would have voted for evidence. I would have voted for witnesses. I would have voted to convict.

My friend, Alabama Senator Doug Jones, also shares those convictions.

You see, Doug represents an extremely competitive state that, more often than not, votes for Republicans. He knew his vote would open him up to massive attacks from the GOP (and it did!), but he did the right thing anyway.

It’s clear we need fewer people like my opponent and more people like Doug Jones in the U.S. Senate. That’s why I’m asking if you’ll split a donation between our campaigns so we can keep Doug’s seat and get our government working again.

Both Doug and I are facing mountains of outside spending because the GOP knows we’ll be independent Senators unafraid to stand up for what’s right. Special interests are so desperate to keep their power in Washington, they’ll spend whatever it takes to defeat Doug and me.

Already, Mitch McConnell has pledged to spend nearly $200 million to attack vulnerable Democrats across the country. And after yesterday, you can bet more is on the way.

Split a donation between Doug Jones and my campaign now to help us fight back against the incoming attacks, defeat Republican party bosses, and put power back in the hands of the people.

Thanks for everything you’re doing to help us win this incredibly critical fight.

This is important —

Back in 2017, the people of Alabama elected Doug Jones because they trusted him to fight for what’s right. And yesterday, he proved everyone right.

My good friend and colleague Doug put country above politics and voted alongside me to convict President Trump on both counts of impeachment.

Let me be clear: Doug's opponents are going to attack him for his vote. He’s in a tight race and the right-wing special interests have already spent half a million dollars attacking him.

Now, you can bet the GOP will exploit Doug’s difficult decision to make sure he loses this race. But this incredible team can help stop them — after all, we did it back in 2018 with our own race.

Please consider chipping in $10 (or more!) to help out my good friend Doug Jones as he faces a tough re-election this November. The GOP is doing everything they can to make sure he’s sent packing this year — especially after yesterday. Let’s make sure they fail.

After yesterday, one thing remains clear: the only way we can bring back accountability to our government is if Democrats take back the majority this year. Our country deserves better than the partisan circus Republicans are putting on in Washington.

With your help, we can make sure Doug wins his re-election and Democrats take back the Senate.

Thanks,

Jon

U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D. RI):

This is important, Bill: In yesterday’s impeachment votes, my friend and colleague Doug Jones bravely voted to convict Donald Trump on both charges.

Doug is a Democrat representing Alabama, so this wasn’t an easy decision for him. He’s facing one of the toughest reelection fights in the Senate this year, and Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell and the Republican machine are going to use these votes to attack him.

Doug stood up for what’s right when it was most important, and now he needs us to stand with him. I told Doug I’d do whatever I could to help his reelection campaign, so today I’m reaching out to you, because you’ve always supported me when it mattered.

Will you give $5 or more now to reelect Doug Jones, protect Alabama’s Senate seat and defeat the Trump agenda?

Doug and I were U.S. attorneys together. He’s a man of courage and integrity, and I can’t think of a better person to represent Alabama in the Senate.

Of course, Republican megadonors would prefer another rubber stamp who will fall in line behind Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell. That’s why they’re already spending big to defeat Doug.

Their sharks started circling ahead of the vote, spending half a million dollars to attack Doug before deliberations had even ended. If Doug is going to fend off Republican smears, he needs our help today.

Doug Jones did what was right in voting to convict Donald Trump. He stood by his constitutional oaths rather than listen to the polls. Let’s do whatever we can to help him win reelection: Click here to give $5 or more to reelect Doug Jones, protect Alabama’s Senate seat and defeat the Trump agenda.

Thanks for supporting Democrats everywhere, Bill.

Sincerely,

Sheldon

Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) speaks at a press conference on December 19, 2018, after the passage of a bipartisan criminal justice reform bill.

Yesterday, during the final votes in President Trump’s impeachment trial, every Senate Democrat stood strong and voted to convict and remove the President from office.

That includes my friend and colleague Doug Jones, a red-state Democrat from Alabama, who faced pressure from Republicans to join them and acquit President Trump. But he chose the truth instead, and now the GOP is hoping to make him pay the price for it in November.

We need to stand with Doug Jones today. Let’s show him our support for his courageous vote and help him defend his seat. Pitch in $5 right now.

Yesterday’s vote proved just how important it is for us to work hard and re-elect our most vulnerable Democratic Senators like Doug Jones. Republicans think Doug will be easy to beat in the November election, but they don’t know he’ll have all of us standing behind him.

If you’re ready to send the GOP the message that we’re standing with Doug Jones, join me:

Make a $5 contribution right now to show your support for my friend Doug Jones.

Yesterday was a dark day in American history, Nicholas. And my colleagues who lacked courage—those unwilling to do what they know in their conscience to be right—will be remembered as complicit.

Yet, facing an onslaught of attack ads, dark money, and unbelievable political pressure, Senator Doug Jones (D-Alabama) voted to convict Trump. I’m proud to be serving alongside him—our country is better for it, too.

Doug’s re-election race will be one of our toughest fights of the cycle. But if we can hold Alabama—and this is a race we can win—we’ll have a real shot at taking back the Senate and ending Mitch McConnell's stranglehold on power.

If you care about keeping courageous voices who will fight for what’s right for the country—not what’s right for Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump—please rush a donation to Doug’s campaign today. You can use this link: secure.actblue.com/donate/ots_jones

My colleague, Alabama Senator Doug Jones, is running for re-election in one of the most competitive races in the Senate.

Doug is considered one of the most vulnerable Democrats and special-interest groups are intensely targeting his race.

We need to do everything in our power to protect Doug’s seat. Will you split a contribution between my campaign and Doug’s, so we can defend his seat and flip the Senate?

Doug is exactly the kind of leader we need in the Senate.

More than once, Doug has bravely done the right thing for the country despite the personal and political risks it might cause him. He’s protected access to health care for millions of Americans, and he’s a longtime civil rights champion.

We can’t afford to lose Doug’s leadership in the Senate. Chip in right now to help send him back to the Senate.

Honestly, the Senate is all but broken.

If we’re going to change the way things are done, then we need to take back the Majority. And if we’re going to take back the Majority, then we need to defend each and every Democratic seat.

That starts with Doug. Will you split a contribution between my campaign and Doug’s, so we can defend his seat against the onslaught of special-interest money pouring into his race?

With gratitude,

Sherrod

I’ll make this quick: I’m writing to ask you to split a donation between Senator Doug Jones’ reelection campaign in Alabama and my campaign to defeat Senator Cornyn here in Texas.

When Sen. Jones put country over politics, he took a courageous step. Now more than ever, we need people in the Senate who are willing to stand up and fight for what’s right — so we need to have Sen. Jones’ back this November in a tough election.

Conversely, Sen. Cornyn put his lack of integrity on display once again this week. By voting under the direction of Mitch McConnell to acquit the president without calling for witnesses, he showed us that he’s more interested in political expediency than upholding his oath to our Constitution.

We need lawmakers in D.C. who act with honesty and integrity more than ever.

Will you split a donation between my campaign and Sen. Jones’ today to help us bring some backbone to Washington?

Thanks for your support,

MJ

It isn't always easy to do the right thing. But I believe it's always worth it.

That's what I kept thinking when I saw Senator Doug Jones from Alabama put aside electoral concerns and partisan squabbling to vote his conscience. That's what's missing in Washington.

But national Republicans are already lining up to use it as ammunition against him in deep-red Alabama during his re-election. Now it's up to grassroots teams like ours to support Doug.

Sen. Jones has a long history of standing up for justice. He prosecuted KKK members, stood up for fairness, and has been serving hardworking families in the Senate. It should come as no surprise he put politics aside to do what he thought was right.

Doug isn't bought and paid for, or overly concerned with partisan nonsense. I hope we get the chance to work together soon on the priorities we share like protecting Social Security, expanding health care, and honoring our veterans and their families. But if Mitch McConnell and his cronies get their way, we're both going to lose in November.

Like I said, I think doing the right thing is always worth it, and I'm hoping this grassroots team will help me prove it. Will you split a donation of $5 or whatever you can afford between Doug Jones and me today?

Thanks,

Theresa

U.S. Senator Bob Casey, Jr. (D. PA):

casey-ssdi-1-633x499.png

Yesterday, Doug Jones took a difficult, principled, and courageous vote in the U.S. Senate.

Doug's running one of the most competitive re-election campaigns in the country, defending a seat in a “ruby-red state.” But Doug Jones is no stranger to tough fights or standing up for what's right. As a former prosecutor, he brought to justice the Ku Klux Klan members responsible for the 1963 bombing of Birmingham's 16th Street Baptist Church that killed three young African-American girls.

Now Doug's under attack for voting his conscience — from his opponents, from dark money groups, and from President Trump's closest allies — and it's up to us to have his back.

Will you stand with Doug Jones? Chip in $13 to show you support leaders who will put principles and our Constitution ahead of politics.

Doug was already facing a tough election. He's being challenged by former U.S. Attorney General and Alabama Senator, Jeff Sessions, and a variety of Trump loyalists who will have nearly unlimited dark money dollars behind them.

If we defeat them, even as they build entire campaigns around attacking Doug's vote, it will send a powerful message to leaders across the nation that even in dark times, you can defend the Constitution and win.

If we stand on the sidelines, however, it will show Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, President Donald Trump, and their enablers that they can get away with anything.

There's too much at stake to let Doug Jones stand alone. Chip in $13 today and help him stand strong.

Thanks for doing your part,

Team Casey

Folks,

My colleague, Senator Doug Jones, made the incredibly courageous decision to vote to convict Donald Trump on both impeachment charges. The Senate Democrats were unanimous in this vote.

Doug Jones did what was right — not what's easy. He is a person of character and principle and someone I want to continue working with in the Senate.

Doug Jones is the most vulnerable Democratic Senator facing reelection. Republicans have already started attacking him, and soon Mitch McConnell’s dark money network will flood the state of Alabama with millions of dollars to smear him. All for standing for truth.

I’m asking you to step up today and split a contribution between Doug Jones and my continued efforts to flip the Senate. Senator Jones needs our help now more than ever.

Senator Jones was elected by the people of Alabama in 2017 because they trusted him to do the right thing — and he did.

He upheld his oath to the Constitution, despite the political risk. We must keep courageous leaders like Doug Jones in the Senate so that we can bring accountability back to Washington.

The stakes couldn’t be higher, folks. Split a contribution between Doug Jones and my work to take back the Senate today.

We need Democrats like Doug Jones in the Senate who aren’t afraid to stand up and do what’s right — no matter what.

Mahalo,

Mazie
