The once honorable Senator, then Rep. Lindsey Graham deemed in the 1998 Clinton Impeachment that as president “… your conduct as a public official is clearly out of bounds in your role . . . because impeachment is not about punishment. Impeachment is about cleansing the office. Impeachment is about restoring honor and integrity to the office,” Graham said. Sure, every member of a political party has the right to evolve and alter his or her thinking, but that is a far cry from hypocrisy.  Sunday morning, during an interview with NBC’s Chuck Todd, another Republican, Senator Lamar Alexander, indicated that President Trump is either dishonorable or too stupid to be President of the United States.

Alexander tried to defend the President’s asking of Ukraine to announce an investigation of Joe Biden’s son Hunter for political gain.  Alexander admitted it was wrong but asserted the President did not know better. When queried by Todd as to  why the proper procedure for investigation was not followed, Senator Alexander shined a light on his true colors as illuminated in a portion of the Meet the Press transcript below:

TODD: And why do you think he didn't do that?

ALEXANDER: Maybe he didn't know to do it.

TODD: Okay, this has been a rationale that I've heard from a lot of Republicans. “Well, boy, he's still new to this.”

ALEXANDER: Well, a lot of people come to —

TODD: At what point, though, is he no longer new to this?

ALEXANDER: Well, the bottom line, it’s not an excuse. He shouldn’t have done it. And I said he shouldn’t have done it. And now I think it’s up to the American people to say, ‘OK, good economy, lower taxes, conservative judges, behavior that I might not like, call to Ukraine.’ Weigh that against Elizabeth Warren or Bernie Sanders and pick a president.

Strategically, Alexander made sure not to mention the more moderate names of Biden, Klobuchar, or Buttigieg as possible contenders for Trump. As Iowa Republican Senator Joni Ernst admitted just a week ago, “Iowa caucuses are this next Monday evening. And I'm really interested to see how this discussion today informs and influences the Iowa caucus voters, those Democratic caucus-goers. Will they be supporting Vice President Biden at this point? Not sure about that,” she said.

It is time real Americans stop being sheep and pull the wool from our eyes.  Although Republicans have admitted to us, in the barest of terms—the law, the Senate, the Justice Department, the   Supreme Court, and the Constitution are now just power tools, real patriotic Americans need to pull the power cord. The rapidly increasing down-hill slide of democracy may be too late to stop if we do not shore up our defenses. The President showed us on July 25th the day after Robert Mueller warned us They're doing it as we sit here and that the interference in our election process was ongoing, that he does not care about America.  He endangered the peace of Ukraine, in a phone call to their President Volodymyr Zelensky, by threatening to withhold money for the country to buy weapons to defend itself, if Zelensky did not help him win the 2020 U.S. presidential election.  The time is now, the moment is now…
