As Steve M. Says: Being A Republican Voter Means You Never Have To Apologize.

I really do not care anymore if Republican politicians ever apologize for their lies, insults, and harmful policies.  Yes, apologizing is the human thing to do because no one is perfect and we all make mistakes.  Saying “I’m sorry” is the first step in trying to correct a mistake or maybe right a wrong.  But there are multiple reasons why any apology from a Republican politician is worthless.  The most obvious reason is pointed out by Steve M. over on Crooks and Liars.  Republican voters do not believe in apologies.

Republican Congressman Doug Collins is a prick.  You can look up his slavish devotion to Trump if you want, but I watched how he managed the impeachment vote on his side of the aisle.  Yuck.  And after the Iran war powers resolution vote, Collins accused Democrats of the following:

The Republican lawmaker, who vigorously defended Trump against the impeachment proceedings in the House Judiciary Committee, claimed Pelosi and the Democrats “are in love with terrorists.”

“We see that they mourn Soleimani more than they mourn our Gold Star families who suffered under Soleimani,” Collins complained, a tone-deaf line of attack considering Trump’s shoddy record with Gold Star families.

And Republican voters want to run with this line.  You can see it in the attack by one voter on Warren:

Warren town hall interrupted by angry protester accusing her of ‘siding with terrorists’

Sorry to link to Fox Propaganda, but this is what Republicans want.  Get up and scream that Democrats are “siding with terrorists.”  There is a historical precedent with this.  Democrats were always being accused of supporting communists in the past, and it was an effective line to use.  Nowadays, it’s all about terrorists instead.

Well, Collins got to throw out his attack line, and right wing “media” ran with it.  There are multiple right wing sites running with that nut attacking Warren.  And my cynical view is that this is what Collins wanted.

It’s why I don’t believe that Collins is sincere when he made an apology for his accusation that Democrats love them some terrorists.  But Collins put up the following on Twitter:

x

Then he has some other BS about what he had seen while serving in Iraq in 2008…blah, blah, blah.  He is implying that the horrors of war made him loose his cool.

Guess what though?  Seems there are Republicans on Twitter who are really pissed off at Collins for apologizing.  You can either go to Collins Twitter feed or Steve M. to get a gander at the anger and projection pouring forth from Republican voters.

I’ll see if I can summarize:  APOLOGIZING IS WEAKNESS!

This is NOT some new development with the Orange Ape in the White House.  Republicans, especially Republican voters, have supported politicians who do not believe in apologizing as long as I have been alive.  Anyone remember George W. Bush?  I  remember him not being able to acknowledge the he has ever made a mistake during one of the debates in 2004.

Mr. Compassionate Conservative not being able to acknowledge ever making a mistake.  How godlike.  Republican voters loved him, and squeezed him, and called him “George.”  They also voted back into office that year.

Oh, does anyone remember that lovely bumper sticker that was made back in 1993?  When Bill Clinton was floundering in his first couple of years in office, the Republicans put out a bumper sticker that said, “Don’t Blame Me!  I voted for Bush!”  It was a take off on the old bumper sticker that appeared during Watergate of “Don’t Blame Me! I’m From Massachusetts!”

Anyway, it doesn’t really pay for Republican politicians to apologize.
