Hey, NY and CA: Want “Help” with Your Homeless? You Have to Ask Trump “Politely”

Latest tweet from IMPOTUS:

California and New York must do something about their TREMENDOUS Homeless problems. They are setting records! If their Governors can’t handle the situation, which they should be able to do very easily, they must call and “politely” ask for help. Would be so easy with competence!

It’s no longer enough for states — especially those that didn’t vote for Trump — to ask for federal assistance. They have to do it politely.

As for Trump’s “competence” on the homelessness issue:

Trump taps consultant who urged food ban on homeless to lead council (Dec 4, 2019)

The Trump administration has tapped Robert Marbut, a consultant who has urged cities to stop feeding the homeless, to lead the agency that coordinates the government's response to the crisis, drawing a rebuke from a top housing advocate. . .

“He clearly has a patronizing, condescending and blaming approach — which, while it may hide homelessness, especially from downtown businesses, it does nothing to end or even alleviate homelessness,” [Diane] Yentel [, president and CEO of the National Low Income Housing Coalition] said.

“It’s absurd and it’s dangerous,” Yentel added.

and What’s the Deal With Trump and the Homeless? (Sep 12, 2019):

This whole charade with Trump and the homeless is hard to figure out. I mean, it’s obvious that Trump can’t actually do anything. The homeless haven’t broken any laws, and they certainly haven’t broken any federal laws. They can’t be swept up off the streets. Nor does the federal government have a police force to sweep them up even if they wanted to. Even Trump isn’t dim enough to think otherwise. So why the kabuki?

Mother Jones had an answer back in September; it describes perfectly why Trump just tweeted about it again:

The most obvious answer is that Trump is putting on a show for his fans. We wanted to get the homeless off the streets but Democrats fought to keep their squalid, disgusting, disease-ridden camps right on city sidewalks where they’re free to murder your children. [emphasis in original]

But he’s willing to “help” if we ask him nicely.
