Joe Biden needs an intervention or a come to Jesus moment when it comes to his Republican “friends.”
Trump’s Senate Impeachment Defense Will Be to Put Joe Biden on Trial.
There’s every reason to believe Trump will try to mount an extended attack on Biden as part of his defense in a Senate trial. Someone familiar with the Trump camp strategy told Politico that “they want some kind of factual affirmative defense on the merits,” and Trump himself on Friday said, “I want a trial.” It appears the affirmative defense would be that Trump pressured Zelensky because he was worried about corruption coming from the Bidens, and not because he was seeking dirt on a political rival. (This is almost laughable.)
According to the New York Times, Sen. Lindsey Graham, who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee, is already laying the groundwork for this defense. Graham sent a letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo seeking evidence to sully the Bidens:In the letter, Mr. Graham asked for documents and communications with former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., his son Hunter Biden, officials from the Obama administration and former President Petro O. Poroshenko of Ukraine. The list suggests that Mr. Graham envisions a defense of Mr. Trump that focuses on shifting attention away from Mr. Trump’s conduct and onto the issue of whether Hunter Biden’s work on the board of a Ukrainian energy company while his father was vice president was appropriate.
Now, it appears that Joe “Republicans will have an epiphany after Trump is gone” Biden has figured out that Lindsey Graham is not his friend any more.
Joe Biden’s presidential campaign accused Sen. Lindsey Graham of having “forfeited his conscience” for requesting State Department records concerning the former vice president’s efforts to oust a corrupt Ukrainian prosecutor in 2016.
The broadside against Graham signaled a new phase of the Biden campaign’s counterattack against President Donald Trump — whose attempts to have Biden and his son investigated in Ukraine have led to his looming impeachment — by pointing out that congressional Republicans saw no scandal regarding the Bidens until it became a political issue for Trump.
That sounds pretty tough coming out of the Biden campaign. And you could hear the toughness coming out of Biden with these comments:
“Lindsey is about to go down in a way that I think he's going to regret his whole life,” Biden told CNN's Don Lemon in an interview Friday.
“I say Lindsey, I just — I'm just embarrassed by what you're doing, for you. I mean, my Lord,” Biden said, when asked what he would say to his old Senate friend.
You’re embarrased for Graham? He is going to rake you and your son over the coals, and Biden says that Graham will “regret it” and you are embarrassed for him. Biden claims that he is the only one tough enough to take on Trump, but this is the best he can come up with against Lindsey Graham?
Nothing like seeing a couple of your central themes go up in flames. 1) I’m one tough guy and 2) Republicans will have an epiphany once Trump is gone and work with me when I am president. The second argument was always bullshit. As for the tough guy bit, look at how Biden responded when Trump’s Ukraine scandal broke.
If anyone needs an epiphany, it is Joe Biden.
