Disinformation persists because of the sudden, unscheduled nature of the Saturday visit, as well as some obvious lying about it because if it were an actual “free weekend” Trump would be at the golf course. OTOH there were plenty of scatological quips in Twitter.
A contributor for the Hill who writes on veterans issues is claiming that President Donald Trump visited the hospital due to chest discomfort. That’s a different story from the White House statement on Trump’s November 16, 2019 visit to Walter Reed National Medical Center, which said Trump was undergoing “portions” of a routine annual exam.
“#BreakingNews Sources tell me from Walter Reed the President was being checked out for chest discomfort. No other information is available at this time,” Andrew Vernon wrote on Twitter on the evening of November 16, 2019. Vernon’s Twitter page profile says that he is “President & CEO. Opinion Contributor @thehill. @ColumbiaMSPH Alum & @UMaine Alum. @USArmy Veteran. #GoHabsGo.”
Vernon’s tweet sparked a flurry of attention about possible Trump chest pain on social media. However, the chest discomfort claim has not been confirmed by other sources, although others have written that it’s unusual how the president’s Walter Reed visit unfolded.
In the last two years, Trump’s annual physical was held in January or February, CNN correspondent Jeremy Diamond reported during a broadcast on the network, and he said the previous exams were publicly announced and were on Trump’s public schedule. In this case, reporters were even told they couldn’t immediately report on the visit, and the visit was unannounced.
This is very mysterious today. President Trump’s trip to Walter Reed National Medical Center was previously unscheduled, a source familiar with the matter told CNN.
The visit was not on the Saturday public schedule. It was also not on the internal schedule.

MORE: I reached out to the Montgomery County, Maryland (Walter Reed location) police. The spox I talked with said they did not get any sort of heads up for @realDonaldTrump’s trip to Walter Reed to

Trump just arrived at Walter Reed to begin physical.
White House spox: "Anticipating a very busy 2020, the President is taking advantage of a free weekend here in Washington, D.C., to begin portions of his routine annual physical exam at Walter Reed."

Does anyone think it’s a bit weird that the White House press secretary is out on Saturday night saying the president is incredibly healthy right after he went in and had a surprise medical appointment on a Saturday. https://t.co/9l0acHljkw

Spoke to a sr former justice dept official. He too worries Trump can’t get off, won’t get off, “dictator’s treadmill.” Once you’re on the ride is high, so you’ll do anything, and everything, to keep running and not to crash and burn. I’ve seen it all my life. Never ends well
