Democrat Beshear Leads for KY Governor; MS Race IS Close

Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear has a sizeable lead in the Kentucky Governor’s race against unpopular Republican incumbent Governor Matt Bevin. According to a poll released by PollSmart MR, Beshear leads Bevin 50% to 32% among registered voters and 54% to 33% among likely voters. When leaners are added in, Beshear leads 55% to 36%. The election will be held November 5.

Though the poll seems too optimistic, Kentucky has a history of electing Democratic governors more often than not. The governor prior to Bevin was Andy Beshear’s father Steve Beshear. Bevin has been rated as the least popular governor.

On the other hand, a poll by Mason Dixon taken October 10-13, showed the race tied at 46% even. Another poll by Garin-Hart-Yang Research Group in August showed Beshear with a nine point lead.

The PollSmart survey was taken October 13-20 and has margin of error of 4.2%.

In the Mississippi Governor’s Race, Tate Reeves, the Republican candidate leads Mississippi Attorney General and Democrat Jim Hood by 40% to 36% among registered voters. Among likely voters Reeves leads 47% to 44%. When leaning voters are added, Reeves leads by only 47% to 46%.

Another poll by Mason Dixon taken October 17-19 showed Reeves ahead by 46% to 43%.

The Poll Smart survey was taken October 13-20 for the November 5 election. The margin of error is 4.2%.

Donald Trump is expected to make campaign appearances for both Republican candidates. A loss in either would be considerable blow to Republican morale as congressional Republicans deal with Trump’s impending impeachment and trial.
