Unfortunately, it looks like it’s about to get some.

A Penn State alumnus recently sent this not-at-all-racist-to-him-apparently letter to one of the Nittany Lions’ football players:

The letter that was addressed to “Dear Jonathan”, presumably to Penn State safety Jonathan Sutherland, was posted on social media by teammate Antonio Shelton on Monday night. Sutherland is a defensive standout who wears his hair in dreadlocks.

“Though the athletes of today are certainly superior to those in my days, we miss the clean-cut young men and women from those days,” the letter, signed by Dave Petersen, said.

“Watching the Idaho game on TV, we couldn’t help but notice your — well — awful hair. Surely there must be mirrors in the locker room! Don’t you have parents or a girlfriend who have told you those shoulder-length dreadlocks look disgusting and are certainly not attractive?”

I can only assume Ninny Lion Dave Petersen misses a lot about the old days. Perhaps he even misses the days when no one on the team wore dreadlocks because no one was black.

Personally, I’ve had the same haircut since I was 5, and it pretty much always looks like I cut it myself with a pair of toenail clippers and a welding torch, so I’m not the best person to judge hairstyles. But to my middle-aged eyes, dreadlocks are a hell of a lot more attractive than ‘60s-style buzz cuts.

Also, what year is this, and where has Petersen been? You’d be hard-pressed these days to find a team that doesn’t have one or several players with dreads.
