2019 Governor Polls: Democrats Lead in Louisiana and Kentucky, Mississippi May Be Close

An Independent Poll for the Governor’s race in Louisiana shows Democrat incumbent John Bel Edwards with a lead over two Republicans for the October 12 jungle primary. The poll by Market Research Insight shows Edwards with 52% against 25% for Ralph Abraham and 19% for Eddie Rispone.  A candidate must receive over 50% to avoid a runoff on November 16.

In head to head races, Edwards leads Abraham 53% to 47%, and leads Rispone 55% to 45%. Cook’s Political Ratings has the Louisiana Governor’s race as lean Democratic.

In Mississippi, Democrat Jim Hood claims a slight lead against Republican Tate Reeves who just won the runoff for the Republican nomination for governor. The poll by Hickman Analytics was taken August 11-15 and is apparently a Democratic poll quoted by the Hood campaign.

Hood leads Tate Reeves 44%-41% among voters who say they definitely will vote and 43%-42% among all likely voters. The poll was conducted during the Republican runoff when the two Republican candidates were advertising heavily and receiving extensive media coverage.

In Kentucky, a poll by Democratic pollster Garin-Hart-Yang Research Group, gave Democrat Andy Beshear a 48% to 39% lead over incumbent Republican Governor Matt Bevin. The poll was released August 26.

Cook’s Political Ratings rates the Kentucky governor’s race as a tossup.

Website 538 rates Market Research Insight at B+ with a Democratic lean of 0.1%. Garin-Hart-Yang Research is rated as B+ with a Democratic lean of 1.5%. Hickman Analytics is not rated by 538.
