Sen. Tim Kaine (D. VA) Keeps Up The Momentum To Flip The Virginia State Senate

Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Tim Kaine (D. VA):

This November, the eyes of the nation will once again turn to the Commonwealth of Virginia as voters go to the polls to elect our next state legislature. We’re so often a bellwether for what’s to come across the country. Just remember how we kicked off the blue wave with historic elections in 2017! Two years later, I’m inspired by the huge number of amazing people — many of them activists, organizers, and longtime fighters for good — who have stepped up to run for office in hopes of flipping our General Assembly in 2019. They know, like you and I do, that a Democratic majority will lead to important progress for Virginia families. So when the pundits zero in on Virginia in less than three months, let’s make sure we’re ready to show them the best of who we are.

Here are two of those inspiring people are running for State Senate in 2019. I hope you’ll read a little more about them and consider joining me in supporting their campaigns:

Missy Cotter Smasal, running for State Senate in District 8:

Missy Cotter Smasal’s life has always been guided by her passion for service and leadership. She served as an officer in the United States Navy and owned and operated a successful small business. She’s a dedicated parent, coach, and volunteer, and has advocated for safety in Virginia Beach schools. And today, she’s running to be a Virginia state senator. If elected, Missy will work within the community to build a safe, environmentally resilient, and economically strong Virginia Beach. I hope you’ll join me in enthusiastically supporting her candidacy. Help make sure she has the resources she needs to win in November by making a donation to her campaign today.

Cheryl Turpin, running for State Senate in District 7:
Cheryl Turpin grew up in a military family that settled in Fairfax, Virginia. She's worked as a science teacher in Virginia Beach for 24 years, most recently teaching Environmental Studies at Frank W. Cox High School. As an educator and a concerned citizen, she decided to run for office to work towards a Virginia with better access to health care, stronger schools, and a renewed commitment to protecting our environment. As State Delegate, she’s done exactly that — and now she's taking the fight to the State Senate, running to represent District 7 and help flip the General Assembly. I believe in Cheryl, I’m proud to support her candidacy, and I hope you’ll join me by chipping in to her campaign here.

Thank you for taking the time to learn a little about these two candidates. I hope you’re as fired up as I am about their commitment to public service and dedication to making Virginia the best it can be. Our national politics are important — and next year we’ll work hard to keep our hard-won House seats, re-elect my friend Mark Warner, and put a Democrat in the White House. But before we do any of that, we have a chance right now to secure critical Democratic victories and flip Virginia’s state legislature blue.

Thanks for all that you do,

Tim Kaine
