It’s one thing to be stubborn. It’s another to be an asshole.
Suffice to say, Donald Trump is a full-bore stubborn asshole.
The Central Park Five, who were convicted in 1990 of raping and assaulting a jogger, were later cleared through DNA evidence, but that hasn’t stopped Trump from continuing to suggest that they’re guilty.
DNA is pretty science-y, after all, and the now fully exonerated Central Park Five defendants are black and Hispanic. And back in 1989, Trump took out a full-page ad in New York newspapers demanding they be executed for their non-crime.
Weird that he takes Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un at their word but can’t wrap his head around incontrovertible DNA evidence.
President Trump on Tuesday refused to apologize to the “Central Park Five” for calling for their executions over rape and assault convictions that were later overturned.
“You have people on both sides of that. They admitted their guilt,” Trump told reporters as he left the White House for a campaign rally in Florida.
Trump’s stance is receiving new scrutiny in the wake of “When They See Us,” a recent Netflix documentary focused on the case. White House correspondent April Ryan, who asked the president the question, had earlier Tuesday called on him to apologize.
The president seemed puzzled by the line of questioning, asking Ryan “Why do you bring that question up now?”
If there’s a bigger, more racist asshole on the planet, I’ve yet to see him.
