MT-Sen: Wilmot Collins (D) Pushes Congress To Fully Fund 9/11 First Responders Health Care

Received this e-mail today from Helena Mayor Wilmot Collins (D. MT) U.S. Senate campaign:

Wilmot Collins (D. MT)

Friend,

When our nation came under attack on September 11, 2001, thousands of courageous firefighters, paramedics, EMTs, law enforcement officers, and more, facing unknown dangers, rushed into action to mitigate the damage, care for victims, and help prevent further casualties. These first responders are the definition of American heroes, and deserve our utmost respect.

Today, some of these first responders testified before Congress, sharing heart-wrenching stories about how their lives have been impacted in the years since the 9/11 attacks. Many of these men and women have developed cancer and other illnesses and require special care—but the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund they rely on for health benefits is almost out of funding.

I’m joining our first responders in calling on Congress to pass the Never Forget the Heroes Act immediately to ensure our 9/11 first responders can access the care they need. I will always stand with our first responders—sign on now if you’re with me.

Time and again, Republicans in Congress have failed to honor our commitments to the brave 9/11 first responders who fearlessly rushed into danger to save as many lives as they could, with some in the GOP objecting to the victims’ compensation fund before it ever even passed.

And many Republicans weren’t even present for today’s hearings. This is beyond shameful.

After the incredible sacrifice that these brave men and women made for our country, we owe it to these extraordinary first responders to fund the essential health care services that they need.

We need leaders in Congress who will stand with our first responders. I will make this one of my top priorities as your next Senator. Add your name now to join me in this fight.

Thank you,

Wilmot
