Trump describes non-white immigrants as 'invaders,' echoing NZ shooter

It’s clear that the New Zealand mosque killer was a big fan of Donald Trump’s efforts to stand “as a symbol of renewed white identity and common purpose,” and now his motivations are coming into even sharper focus. And they're eerily similar to the twisted values that animate our pr*sident.

In fact, as the world was still reeling from the deadly Christchurch shooting yesterday, Trump appeared to be cribbing from the killer’s manifesto.

During a ceremony for his veto of the congressional resolution rebuking his national emergency declaration, Trump said, “Last month, more than 76,000 illegal migrants arrived at our border. We’re on track for a million illegal aliens to rush our borders. People hate the word ‘invasion’ but that’s what it is. It’s an invasion of drugs and criminals and people. You have no idea who they are.”

That sounded a lot like the shooter’s manifesto, which stated, “For many years I had been hearing and reading of the invasion of France by non-whites, many of these rumors and stories I believed to be exaggerations, created to push a political narrative. But once I arrived in France, I found the stories not only be true, but profoundly understated. In every French city, in every French town the invaders were there.”

No, Donald Trump didn’t pull the trigger, but his rhetoric is encouraging a lot of potentially violent people. It needs to stop. Now.
