Beto is planning an 'extended' trip to Iowa

People don’t just go to Iowa to watch Scott Walker flail around in the corn. They go because they want to run for president.

And it’s starting to look more and more like Beto O’Rourke is one of those people.

Politico:

Beto O’Rourke isn’t just headed to Iowa for a one-off campaign appearance with a state Senate candidate. He is planning a multi-day trip with multiple appearances in the first-in-the-nation caucus state, two Democrats familiar with his plans told POLITICO on Tuesday.

O’Rourke’s advisers had confirmed Monday that O’Rourke would appear at a rally in Waterloo, Iowa, on Saturday for Eric Giddens, a candidate in a March 19 special election.

But two sources said O’Rourke is building more days and appearances into his trip as he prepares for an all-but-certain presidential campaign.

Not a huge surprise. If you’re a Texas Democrat who nearly defeated an incumbent Republican senator — even if that senator has all the charm of an overturned hornets’ nest — you’re probably going to run for president, no matter how many times you said you wouldn’t.

I like it. He can win. And if he somehow turns Texas blue? Gravy.
