Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D. NJ) in support of U.S. Senator Bill Nelson’s (D. FL) re-election campaign:
I'm writing to you about my friend and colleague Senator Bill Nelson who faces a tough reelection fight in Florida this year.
Our battle to take back the Senate depends on Bill winning in Florida, and I'm asking for your help to make it happen.
Bill’s opponent is Governor Rick Scott who has denied climate change and refused to expand Medicaid, which would have helped provide healthcare to 750,000 Floridians. He also supported Republican attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
Scott and GOP super PACs have combined to spend almost $40 million against Billin the last 4 months. That is more than 5 times what Democrats have spent on the race — and more than Bill spent during his entire 2012 campaign.
The good news is that despite being hit with $40 million in attacks, the race is dead even.
But we know right-wing super PACs and GOP donors will continue to spend millions trying to defeat Bill, and Scott doesn't even have to go far for extra money — he just wrote his campaign a check for $26 million out of his own pocket.
So I'm asking you today to help Bill win in November by making a small dollar contribution to his campaign. Because if Bill doesn't win, POLITICO said “A loss in Florida would all but relegate Democrats to the Senate minority for at least another two years.”
I've been to Florida twice to campaign for Bill so far, and I'm doing everything I can to help. Please join me today in supporting Bill Nelson.
Thank you for your support.
