Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren’s (D. MA) re-election campaign:
What we saw this week wasn't a Supreme Court confirmation hearing – it was a charade.
Donald Trump and the Senate Republicans are still hiding over 100,000 pages of Brett Kavanaugh's records from his work in the George W. Bush Administration. They're trying to ram Kavanaugh's nomination through the Senate as quickly as possible, starting with this mob rule hearing.
Because here's the deal: Brett Kavanaugh is unpopular – really unpopular.
A recent poll has Brett Kavanaugh at just a 33 percent approval rating (that's even lower than Trump's lousy approval ratings). In fact, Kavanaugh is the most unpopular Supreme Court nominee since Robert Bork in the 1980s.
These aren't just numbers. This shows that if we get in this fight all the way, there's still a chance we could stop Brett Kavanaugh from being confirmed to the Supreme Court – just like we beat back Trumpcare last year.
We don't have all the facts about Brett Kavanaugh's work in the George W. Bush White House – but what's already public about his time as a lawyer and a judge is deeply alarming. He's spent his entire career cozying up to the rich and powerful. He's ruled against workers and a woman's right to access a safe, legal abortion. He ruled that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was unconstitutional.
And he's made dangerous statements that he believes the President of the United States should be above the law.
It's no surprise that both Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch – Donald Trump's first Supreme Court nominee – were pre-screened by one of the worst right-wing, billionaire-funded groups in the country.
I'm fighting my heart out to stop Brett Kavanaugh from getting a lifetime promotion to the highest court in the land. Republican and Democratic Senators need to care about the rule of law.
But it's also going to take a grassroots army of people from California and across the country to win this battle.
I know that if we stand shoulder to shoulder, we have a fighting chance to win.
Thanks for being a part of this,
