Congress DCCC IN-9th Watson

DCCC Decides to Help Liz Watson Flip IN-9th to Blue.

From the Louisville Courier-Journal:

The DCCC, which pushes to get Democrats elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, added Watson to their “Red to Blue” program, which sends support to top-tier candidates they think have potential to flip districts.

In a release, the group cites Watson's grassroots engagement, campaign organization and fundraising. She raised more campaign cash than Hollingsworth in the last quarter by roughly double, according to federal election data.

The reason why this is being covered by a Kentucky newspaper is because the Indiana 9th Congressional District is just across the Ohio River from Louisville.  It has, in the past, been represented by Blue Dog democrats such as Baron Hill.  According to Ballotpedia, IN-9th is an R+13 district.

So why the interest of the DCCC?  Fundraising by Liz Watson appears to be strong:

Watson raked in $486,548 from mid-April to the end of June, more than any prior period, according to the latest quarterly report filed with the Federal Election Commission. She ended the month with $471,347 on hand.

In the same period, Hollingsworth collected $228,941. He ended with $608,575 on hand.

“This filing shows yet again that Trey Hollingsworth is one of the most vulnerable incumbents in the country,” Watson's campaign manager Brian Peters wrote in a release.

Hollingsworth is a first term congressman.  And his throwing shade at Watson was along this line:

“While Ms. Watson's assertions that we already have a secure border and that we can afford a $30 trillion government takeover of health care may appeal to her liberal friends in Washington, they will see how out of step those ideals are with Indiana come November,” Jacobs wrote.

Sounds like someone knows he is vunerable on healthcare.  I wonder how Hollingsworth’s constituents will feel when their premiums are set to rise this fall?
