I'm sometimes asked why I do this. Why, people ask me, do I spend so much time generating post after post after post day after day after day? Obviously, one reason is that it interests me. Another reason is the passion that drives me to support science and science-based medicine and to detest the damage the pseudoscience, particularly pseudoscience in medicine, can do. There is, however, at least one more reason.

I'm referring, of course, to the adoration of my "fans."    Read more

Like a scene out of countless youtube videos, an Army dad surprised his son at school after returning home from Afghanistan yesterday.

This surprise, however, took a slightly different turn.

“Daaaaaaaaaddy!!!”
“Hi son. I'm home.”
“Oh Daddy, I love you! I missed you so much!”
“I missed you too! More than anything.”
“um..........where's Mom?”
“sigh”
“Dad? Where's Mom?”
“Son, there's no right time to tell you this, so I am choosing now. Your mom and I are getting a divorce. She's back at the house packing.”
“Wait......what?”

The newly reunited son and father then went home, where the Marine met his very excited dog for the first time in eight months. He then took the dog to get neutered.

As students celebrate graduation around the country,
they learn you can become a Presidential candidate
if you showed leadership bullying a peer in high school.

Graduates learn that the business world is forgiving:
you can push the economy to the brink of collapse,
and still be given another chance to lose $2 billion.

The Class of 2012 learns that corporations are people
except they have ways to escape their losses
unlike people who carry student loans forever...
& this year's class has the most debt in history.    Read more

There’s always a great sense of shock to everyone when a mother not only takes her own life but chooses to take her children with her. It’s most disturbing because of what a mother’s relationship with her children is for most families. Most mothers would gladly give up their own lives to protect their children. Yet here we have another mother choosing to kill her own children before taking her own life.    Read more

Why ask scientists for ideas when politicians are so great at making things up? [erv]

There are two groups of people I would be perfectly happy if they all just disappeared. Like, right now.

1-- Politicians
2-- Clergy/reverends/pastors/whatevers

Even the shittiests, hipsterish of musicians contributes more to positive to society than those two groups of people. Stephanie Meyer has contributed more positive to society than those two groups of people. The fictional characters on the HBO television show 'Girls' (I cant even hate watch that show) have contributed more positive to society than those two groups of people.

Politicians and 'people of god' are useless, stupid creatures that need to get real jobs and contribute to society like everyone else.    Read more

Reading an article from DeWayne Wickham in the Tuesday morning edition concerning a group called Log Cabin Republicans, which is a gay organization for Republican gay people, some things came to mind. For me as a gay Democrat of why gay people, no matter what their political affiliation is, would be angry because America’s first black president gave them his support to marry the one they love.    Read more
