WATCH: Colbert Epically OBLITERATES Trump For Whining About Him In Hilarious Monologue

The best thing Donald Trump could have done for himself is not say anything about Stephen Colbert. But he did anyway at his own peril.

Last week, Colbert ended a string of hilarious insults aimed at Trump by referring to his mouth as Putin’s “cock holster.” Colbert’s outburst came in response to Trump insulting CBS anchor John Dickerson, a friend of the Late Show host.

The remark sparked conservative outrage and they called for Colbert to be fired. He wasn’t. That’s because we have free speech in this country and comedians should not be fired for insulting snowflake politicians like Trump.

On Thursday, Trump was , and rather than sidestep the question or ignore it, Trump attacked and fell flat on his face.

Trump called Colbert a “no-talent guy” and then claimed credit for Colbert’s success.

You see a no-talent guy like Colbert. There’s nothing funny about what he says. And what he says is filthy. And you have kids watching. And it only builds up my base. It only helps me, people like him. The guy was dying. By the way they were going to take him off television, then he started attacking me and he started doing better. But his show was dying. I’ve done his show. … But when I did his show, which by the way was very highly rated. It was high—highest rating. The highest rating he’s ever had.

And nobody was happier to be attacked by Trump than Colbert himself, who absolutely and proceeded to roast Trump on Thursday night.

Mr. Trump, there is a lot you don’t understand, but I never thought one of those things was show business. Don’t you know I’ve been trying for a year to get you to say my name? You were very restrained—admirably restrained. But now you did it. I won.”

Indeed, Colbert has been slamming him for months now without a peep from Trump, who focused his ire on bitching about Saturday Night Live instead of whining about the jokes made at his expense on the daily Late Night shows.

As we all know, Saturday Night Live’s viewership only skyrocketed after Trump’s attacks. Now it looks like Colbert will enjoy a similar bump.

“Oh, please, don’t make me trend on Twitter again,” Colbert begged sarcastically before dropping the hammer on Trump.

But you’re not wrong. I do occasionally use adult language and I do it in public, instead of in the privacy of an Access Hollywood bus. That is dignified.”

Colbert then informed Trump that while the episode he guested on was highly rated, it wasn’t as highly rated as the episode that Jeb Bush appeared on. “That’s right, you got beat by ‘low energy’ Jeb,” Colbert quipped.

That’s going to sting when Trump hears it.

But that’s not all. Colbert delivered an alternate reason for why his ratings have been so good and then gave Trump the solution to taking him down.

Making jokes about you has been good for ratings. It’s almost as if the majority of Americans didn’t want you to be president. But, you know who’s got really bad ratings these days? You do. Terrible approval numbers. I hear they’re thinking about switching your time slot with Mike Pence. Since all of my success is clearly based on talking about you, if you really want to take me down, there’s an obvious way: resign. If you did that, what would I talk about then? Except your resignation, because that’d be fun.”

Colbert took on Donald Trump and kicked his ass on national television. And you can bet Trump is fuming about it.
