Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he was removing his favorite white supremacist, Steve Bannon, from the National Security Council.
The official story given by the White House is that Bannon was only ever placed on the council in the first place so that he could keep an eye on disgraced former national security advisor Michael Flynn. Somehow, they don’t seem to think this contradicts their assertion that Trump trusted Flynn and had no idea he was a crook.
However, the real reason Trump booted Bannon from the security council may have less to do with Flynn and everything to do with jealousy. According to Fox News’ John Roberts, Trump has been having fits that his white supremacist buddy has been overshadowing him.
“We are also told that maybe the President was not particularly happy at the way Bannon had been grabbing the limelight,” Roberts said before adding, “That may have played into all of this.”
It has become a running joke that Bannon is the real brains behind the Trump presidency. Saturday Night Live spoofed this when they featured “President Bannon” as a grim reaper during a Trump sketch. Following the airing of that SNL episode, MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough made the comment that “maybe Bannon’s calling all the shots.” Less than an hour later, Trump was on Twitter losing his mind.
“I call my own shots, largely based on an accumulation of data, and everyone knows it. Some FAKE NEWS media, in order to marginalize, lies!” Trump tweeted.
Trump is a narcissist. It has to be all about him, all of the time. The media’s focus on Bannon was more than he could take, so he stabbed his own “chief strategist” in the back because he can’t control his green-eyed monster. They baited him and he took it, hook, line, and sinker. That’s about as pathetic as you can get.
