Top Dem: Michael Flynn Outright LIED To Investigators About Russia Trip (DETAILS)

Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) just revealed that disgraced former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn about who ended up footing the bill for his trip to Russia in December 2015.

Cummings, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, wrote the following in a letter to committee chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) on Monday:

The Oversight Committee has in our possession documents that appear to indicate that General Flynn lied to the investigators who interviewed him in 2016 as part of his security clearance renewal.”

According to Cummings, Flynn told investigators that U.S. companies had paid for the trip. But as with most statements that come the Trump camp, this turned out to be bullsh*t. In reality, the trip was actually funded by Russian state-run media outlet RT.

Specifically, the Committee has obtained a Report of Investigation dated March 14, 2016, showing that General Flynn told security clearance investigators that he was paid by `U.S. companies’ when he traveled to Moscow in December 2015 to dine at a gala with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The actual source of the funds for General Flynn’s trip was not a U.S. company, but the Russian media propaganda arm, RT.”

that RT paid Flynn $45,000 for the speech, which was given at the network’s 10th Anniversary Gala. This was the fancy dinner where Flynn was interviewed onstage by RT and got to sit next to Vladimir Putin himself, a moment now memorialized in photos that Flynn really wishes would just disappear.

Email exchanges between Flynn’s “speaker’s bureau, Leading Authorities, and a representative of the network” also show that his son got to tag along too, with all expenses paid. Naturally.

The fee negotiated by Leading Authorities was $45,000 plus expenses, which was lower than the initial fee requested by the agency. Flynn’s son accompanied him on the trip, and his expenses were also covered.

The documents released include a paycheck from Leading Authorities to Flynn for $33,750.00, which was his fee for the speech after Leading Authorities deducted its 25 percent commission. RT also covered $386 for the cost of visas.

The Senate Intelligence Committee has subpoenaed Flynn’s testimony, but his lawyer threw a wrench into that plan when he announced on Monday that Flynn was invoking his Fifth Amendment rights.
