It doesn’t look like right-wing crazy, Senator Tom Cotton, will be seeing another term in office the way things are going. On Monday Cotton, one of the treasonous Republicans who sent a letter to Iran threatening to sabotage the nuclear deal last year, held a town hall in Arkansas and it did not go well for him at all.
Cotton pissed off the crowd by defending Donald Trump’s refusal to release his tax returns.
“My question is you in Congress and the Senate have the power to subpoena these tax returns,” a constituent told Cotton. “The president said during his campaign that he would not release the tax returns while he was under audit. Not he said the election has happened and he doesn’t need to release his tax returns. I’m wondering if you’ll take the initiative to have him release those returns so we can see what kind of connections he has with different countries around the world, and what tax proposals would personally benefit him and his family.”
Now a person can release tax returns while they are under audit, but Cotton repeated Trump’s excuse, adding that he doesn’t have to release them anyway because he was elected by a minority of the population and an outdated system set up to protect slavery:
“As far as I’m aware, the president says he’s still under audit. “The president is also right that this was not a secondary or side issue of the campaign this was a central issue of the campaign. Hillary Clinton and her circle repeated criticized and he won despite all that.
“She released hers!” one constituent responded. Another added: “The former president showed us his birth certificate! My God.” “The former president showed us his birth certificate! My God.”
“Every federal officeholder, every candidate for office files a financial disclosure statement that shows your assets and your liabilities,” Cotton told the crowd to a chorus of boos.
“I think it’s time to repeal and replace you in 2020,” one angry voter told the Senator at the town hall — a sign that Cotton’s attempts to “repeal and replace” Obamacare isn’t exactly popular either.
The entire event was a mess for the GOP. Watch some highlights below:
