Linda Sorenson learned a hard lesson about being an “openly proud racist” recently, when fellow Republicans in Colorado forced her to resign from her Delta County Republican Party chairwoman role.
It all started earlier in 2016, when Linda posted a racist meme of President Obama on her personal Facebook page.
A screen capture of the post is below:
That’s the worst president of the modern age, Ronald Reagan, feeding a chimpanzee. I don’t need to explain the reason that it’s wrong.
Then began Linda’s long and convoluted process of denial, lying and finally accepting that she’d been caught.
First, Linda claimed that she was hacked. Other Republicans claimed she was hacked too. These Republicans were not there, do not have access to her account, and had absolutely no proof of her being hacked, but they KNEW she was hacked and swore to it every day for weeks.
Eventually the hacking story didn’t hold enough water, so Linda then decided to deny the public’s reaction toward it by saying “I really don’t care if people are offended by it.”
Finally, a couple weeks later, she admitted that she was responsible for it. HOWEVER, she made damned sure to say that she has and always has been the only real victim in this.
It appears that someone that I don’t know tagged me in a Facebook post with a silly comparison to Barack Obama. I confess to “liking” a tired old internet meme, and I apologize for my bad judgement. When confronted on the spot by a liberal blogger, I was busy and didn’t realize the game that was being played – the “gotcha” game. The “gotcha” game is fun only for those who intend to ruin a person’s name, reputation, and position of leadership. For anyone else who has been through the cycle, they can tell you how ridiculous and nasty the game is. From one moment to the next, I’m national news. The vitriol and hatred that has been directed at me has been nothing short of stunning. But anyone paying attention these days knows that the left is only about tolerance when they’re demanding that YOU tolerate their latest nutty idea, and if you don’t like it, then you’re automatically a “hater,”, a “bigot” and a “racist.”
I admit saying to the blogger that “I don’t care if you’re offended,” however I do care very much if anyone else was offended. Please forgive me for being insensitive and not thinking of others in the heat of the moment.
I believe one of the greatest things about America is that we are to be judged on the content of our character not the color of our skin.
Let’s go over all the things that are wrong with her “apology.”
First, she never once apologized to our President, his family, people of color in her community or across the nation for the racist content of the meme.
Second, she lied from the start. She wasn’t tagged in a meme that she liked. She shared someone else’s meme from their page directly to hers. You can see it in the screen capture. We know how Facebook works, Linda, even if you don’t.
Third, Linda made the apology all about her. It was a narrative from start to finish about how she has suffered so greatly and we should feel sorry for the fact she got caught. Not that she should feel sorry for being a racist.
Fourth, she played “blame the liberal media” for the fact she got caught being a racist. It isn’t her fault that she’s a racist, clearly. It’s liberals’ collective faults for pointing out the fact she is one.
And then she ends it with a bastardization of a quote from Martin Luther King. After making her entire non-apology about her, she then used his quote to basically imply that in America, SHE won’t be judged on her skin color. I say she’s talking about herself because her entire apology centered around nobody except herself.
After Linda’s long and proven record of being a clueless racist and her total inability to offer a proper apology, local Republican peers basically forced her out of her position. Don Suppes, candidate for Linda’s old job, was quoted as saying, “There’s no room for racism, intended or unintended, in society. It’s best for the party, best for the county, that she step down.”
Linda got the hint, it seems, and announced her resignation this week.
