Petition: Urge The Federal Government to Appropriate Funds So Local Law Enforcement Can Purchase On-Body Cameras for Police Officers

Petition Background:

With the tragic death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo. And the death of Eric Garner in Staten Island, NY from an apparent choke hold. It is time that the federal government step in and partnered with local law enforcement and purchase On-Body Cameras for officers. Even if this started as a small pilot program in Chicago and NYC. It will be a start in the right direction.

Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo

(CNN) -- It's a case of he said, he said. The accounts of why apolice officer fatally shot Michael Brown on a street in Ferguson, Missouri, this weekend couldn't be more disparate. One side says the teenager was surrendering, his hands in the air to show he was unarmed, when the officer opened fire. Authorities counter that Brown attacked the officer in his car and tried to take his gun. The St. Louis suburb of 21,000 was wracked by violence as protesters outraged over the 18-year-old's Saturday shooting faced off with police. Link:

Eric Garner in Staten Island, NY

Eric Garner, a Staten Island father of six, was tragically killed last month by New York Police Department Officer Daniel Pantaleo when he put the asthmatic Garner into an illegal chokehold. His death was recently ruled a homicide by the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office and Mayor Bill de Blasio has vowed to work with “all authorities involved” to “ensure a fair and justified outcome.” Link:
