First Lady Michelle Obama has a message for Melania Trump, and it is every bit the classy sentiment we have come to expect from this entire family.
Obama appeared in a CBS interview with Oprah Winfrey that was a released on Monday. She said loud and clear, anything the incoming first lady needs, she is there to offer a helping hand.
My offer to Melania was, you really don’t know what you don’t know until you’re here, so the door is open, as I’ve told her and as Laura Bush told me and other first ladies told me. We will do whatever they need to help them succeed.
The first lady explained that you don’t really even know what you need to know until you actually find yourself standing in the White House trying to figure out what you are supposed to do.
“You know, you don’t have questions the day after the election,” Obama added. “It’s just sort of like, you’re looking around the house and it is like, ‘What do you want to know?’ And it’s like, ‘I don’t know what I should know.’ ”
Obama said that when her husband won his first presidential election in 2008, Laura Bush showed her the same kind of guidance and support that she is now offering to her successor.
I’m not new in this going high thing; I’m modeling what was done for me by the Bushes. Laura Bush was nothing but gracious and helpful. Her team was right there for my team throughout this entire eight-year process.
The first lady is not alone in her efforts to help the incoming first family figure out what the heck they are supposed to do. President Obama has been trying to help Donald Trump learn how to president. He has offered to hold his hand as long as he needs it and has been diligently going behind him to clean up the messes he continues to make.
However, Michelle may want to offer her assistance to Trump’s daughter Ivanka rather than to Melania since it looks like the president-elect’s wife plans to stay at her posh Trump Tower apartment in New York rather than move to Washington. In her absence, his daughter (you know, the one he wants to date) will reportedly be occupying the White House office usually reserved for the first lady.
