Legal Experts Agree That Trump Violated Oath Of Office By Leaking Classified Intel To The Russians

This is definitely grounds for impeachment.

When Trump met with Russian officials in the Oval Office last week, he gave them highly classified intelligence that puts our national security at risk.

According to the ,

Trump’s disclosures jeopardized a critical source of intelligence on the Islamic State.

The information the president relayed had been provided by a U.S. partner through an intelligence-sharing arrangement considered so sensitive that details have been withheld from allies and tightly restricted even within the U.S. government, officials said.

The partner had not given the United States permission to share the material with Russia, and officials said Trump’s decision to do so endangers cooperation from an ally that has access to the inner workings of the Islamic State.

This kind of information is not something that one just blabs to anyone. It’s something that should be kept to oneself. In other words, Trump should have kept his mouth shut.

Instead, he violated the trust of an intelligence source and may have ruined any future efforts to get good information on one of our nation’s most dangerous enemies, an enemy that Trump promised to protect us from. He may have also given the Russians the ability to figure out how we came by this intel and put a stop to it so we can’t get intel on their activities in Syria.

That’s why a team of six legal experts put together explaining why Trump’s blabbing is so bad and why he can be impeached for it.

If the President gave this information away through carelessness or neglect, he has arguably breached his oath of taking the oath President Trump swore to “faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States” and to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States” to the best of his ability. It’s very hard to argue that carelessly giving away highly sensitive material to an adversary foreign power constitutes a faithful execution of the office of President.

“Violating the oath of office does not require violating a criminal statute,” the legal experts continued, going on to explain that Congress has brought articles of impeachment against three presidents for such violations.

It certainly sounds like Trump violated the oath of office. After all, the Post reported that Trump gave away the info while bragging about it as if he were trying to impress the Russians.

In his meeting with Lavrov, Trump seemed to be boasting about his inside knowledge of the looming threat. “I get great intel. I have people brief me on great intel every day,” the president said, according to an official with knowledge of the exchange.

Trump’s reckless disregard is going to have serious repercussions. Our relationship with the source of the intel could be in jeopardy and we may end up losing a critical intelligence stream that is very important in the fight against terrorism. In other words, the United States could end up being attacked because Trump couldn’t resist sharing highly classified intelligence.

So when the next terrorist attack occurs in this country, that’s on Donald Trump and the Republicans who continue to refuse to impeach him.
