With Marco Rubio relinquishing his Senate seat in Florida to run for president, Democrats have a wonderful opportunity to replace a leading neoconservative voice in the chamber with an advocate for a more thoughtful approach to America's role in the world.
For my money, that person should be Democrat Patrick Murphy. As one of the youngest members of the House of Representatives, he's brought a fresh perspective to Washington, D.C. He also did the hero's work of defeating right-wing extremist Allen West in 2012.
Now he's running for Senate, and he's earned my support. I hope he can count on yours before Tuesday's critical FEC fundraising deadline.

It's hard to believe, but Republicans are running someone even more conservative than Marco Rubio. His name is Ron DeSantis, and as NPR put it, he's the "Tea Party's New Favorite Candidate."
DeSantis is the most conservative member of Florida's congressional delegation. He voted against reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act, leads the fight to repeal the Affordable Care Act, and is a climate change denier.
Thankfully, Patrick Murphy has an eight-point lead in the most recent polling.
If Patrick has the resources he needs to run a thoughtful campaign in a presidential year, he should be able to win this race and move us one step closer to reclaiming the Senate from Mitch McConnell's leadership.

I'm already fired up about winning this seat next November. Thanks for helping to make that happen.
All my best,
U.S. Senator, Connecticut
